Awesome red laser. I love the host. It's slightly visible during the day time and quite nice at night. About 3 weeks shipping. 10/10

Thanks for the review, albeit short.

Make sure you use goggles with it, stay safe

I have a 700 mW 638nm laser and a 1+ watt one too. They are both very bright even in a well lit room. If yours is not, I would suspect it is not 700 mW. You can only know for sure if your measure the power with a laser power meter. If you are happy with it, that's really all that matters.

Most of my pointers are not red wavelength, but I should have more, love that cherry red 638 nm.

My first build was an Oclaro 700 diode build. Although the divergence is little to be desired, the WL makes up for it I think. I may try and build another in the future with maybe a beam expander.
Nice host too!!
:SGD:

Nice laser, swan, looks like one of the SS hosts!

It's nice to see a red wavelength for a change! We don't see too many reds anymore; they just don't seem to get any love, with all the newer high power diodes, and the "exotic" wavelengths, the reds have taken a backseat in hobby laser building. :(

Jeff, I almost had a nice red pen until I did that idiotic mistake killing the blackbuck
AAAAHHHHHHH :cryyy: :banghead:
I love red, but it’s eluded me.

Hey SGD, I'll bet that you'll have have a red to add to your sig pretty soon! :yh:

The lower power singlemode reds are actually some of my favorites for everyday use; you can use them without fear of burning everything in sight, and I personally like a red beam for night use as a star pointer, the red seems to be easier on my eyes than the usual green pointers.

i actually do love my reds alot, althought i had a recent death of my low powered 638nm i still have the stronger tec cooled,im planning to build one pocket sometime.

Shotgundrums how did you fried your blackbuck driver?

Yeah... i like my 638. But the softer 650 is really pleasant. I was really looking forward to the 660ish this time. I test rigged it upon initial setup and the WL looked great!... but, I’m starting over:beer:

reverse poled it like a jackass.
Yep, that’ll do it. Don’t do that lol.
Oh, Chris, the 505 pen is done. Really nice soft green. Paul Measured it at 507nm. I’ll post it on the green page soon:)

I have been thinking about taking my Oclaro700 apart and see if I can crank it up to 1W. I would certainly have use the only G2 lens I have plus a new driver with more current. mine has a long way to go, afterall its only 531mw.

oh im lucky i still never did that. i have to post mine too sometime,i guess mine is around 507nm also.

i suggest you to get the mitsubishi ml501p73 instead of the oclaro as it is more robust and has nice lifespan even above 1w.

hey chris :)
I actually used to have a p73 build but blew it up by accident
I have been thinking of getting another, the problem is that open cans hate me

well yeah the open can is the only minus here,i have pushed my tec cooled p73 up to 1,6w and it survived and still workes great,i don't think that an oclaro could achive something similar,if you get an oclaro don't push it more than 1w,those don't really like to be overdriven as p73's
