It has me 100% baffled - what I am seeing just makes no sense logically :confused

I thought about the wires and sometimes twisting the wires and/or the female plug around does seem to make the error jump in and out. Then the next time it won't. I plan on replacing the wires and plug anyway to see if that makes a difference. Just need the time to drop in to an electronics store and buy the plug.

I was debating whether to mention my latest observation for fear of being labelled as ......... (take your pick - crazy, on drugs, drunk, all three). But hey, why not. This morning I plugged it in and got the error. Then simply having my hand near the system would make the error go away until I removed my hand. Yes, near. Not touching. I repeated it over and over again to ensure it wasn't coincidence. Then reboot and doesn't do it anymore.

I am going to try and make a video of this so people don't think I'm mad.
Been off the Forum a few days.... Hot and busy as
He!!.
We've been breaking High Heat records for almost
a week now...
Going to finally drop to seasonal temps tomorrow...

@Mick
There is one other thing that can cause the "Overflow"
error. That is a broken or intermittent connection between
the LaserBee II OEM and the Thermopile Sensor Head.

Either way... By the info you supplied in PM...your
LaserBee OEM calibration has been reset to the
Factory Default and is no longer Calibrated correctly.
You may get a reading... but it will NOT be accurate.

Have you been scuffling your feet across a freshly carpeted room wearing a wool sweater fresh out of the dryer while rubbing party balloons on your chest? That is so crazy. I believe you though. Please get it on video I have to see this.

I have the video, just need to covert it :)

Was this the sensor you was placing your hand near by any chance?

Yes, waving my hand about 1-2 inches above the sensor. I have a video and will post it.

Thanks Jerry. Sounds like it's been hot there. It's spring here and just starting to warm up.

Anyway, I guess I have a decision to make.

Cost of mailing to you
Repair of whatever I broke + recalibration
May as well get sensor recoated while it's there
Cost of mailing it back to me

Vs

Just buy a new one.

Let's just say it's a simple repair, recalibration, plus recoat of sensor. Could you PM the cost of this plus shipping to Australia.

Thanks
Mick

Mick... Just a friendly heads up..
It is considered poor Forum etiquette to
Double and Triple Post. It is frowned upon
by the Forum Community.

You can easily combine and/or edit any of
your Posts by using the [EDIT] button at
the bottom right of any of your Posts.. ;)

That being said....
PM sent.

Well, in that case your body heat could of been affecting the thermopile sensor. Some weird electronics going on either way.

Thanks Jerry.

I suppose it's possible as shining a bright torch is enough to register a couple of mw so maybe a tiny amount of heat from my hand at 4-5cm is enough to register a very tiny amount - just enough for it to know something is there and tip it to zero.

LaserBee Just a out side thought could the thermopile be disconnected some way from the sensor head? or could the complier be not function correctly?

In post #33 above I had mentuioned that if
the connection between the LaserBee II OEM
and the Thermopile Sensor was intermittent
or not connected that the Overflow error could
show up.

I don't know what you mean about the Compiler
I use MPLAB as our compiler...:undecided:

And here is the video

You already have the answer --you need to send it back for calibration --there isn't any magic trick that will do that.

All you can do is clean all connections to make sure they are all good and use fresh batteries and test it to see what it is doing.

I am well aware of that, but thanks for the tip. In addition, I am still interested in what people think may be causing the affect that waving my hand a couple of inches above seems to have.

Picking up heat from my hand or something else?

Assuming it is not just your hand but anyone's hand that will cause the same effect---maybe is due to the unit being not calibrated/in default condition?

And here is the video

Looking at the video it is quite clear that
your LaserBee II OEM seems to be functioning
correctly.

It detected the heat from your hand as well
as the green Laser as it should.

The problem is that your LaserBee II OEM is
no longer Calibrated.

Again.... by the splash screen data that you
supplied in PM... Your LaserBee II OEM has been
set to the Default Factory Value and is no longer
calibrated...

Just send it back to us. As I said in PM... we will
even re-coat your 3 year old sensor for free.

Yep, it doesn't get any better than that, especially without a hands on check/calibration from Jerry.

Very generous of you Jerry.

Agree--very generous of Jerry.

Ir doesn't get better than that, mikeyjames

Yes, I 100% agree that it is very generous of Jerry and I very much appreciate the offer.

Also, thanks to Jerry for confirming it's picking up body heat from my hand. I'm not an expert on this stuff but I have always hated passing experiences I don't understand off ss "oh well, it just happens".

I was tossing up between the sensor getting some minute measurement from my hand or that my hand was blocking something it was measuring from some other source.

Now I know.

Cheers
Mick
