"The Trail Blazer" - arrival of the "Zacop 520nm, 1350mW, optically corrected" laser.

A huge thank you to Richard (Minamoto Kobayashi) for his professionalism in our dealings.
He sent the Zacop 520nm, 1350mW in two separate pachages and everything was so well packed and he shipped it via FedEx so it was here within days.
I've renamed it "The Trail Blazer" as it's so so bright and beautiful to behold.

So I was fortunate and it was with great pleasure that I also received today my new 18650 batteries I had ordered for this laser.
I assume these are perfect for this unit?
Blazar Protected 18650 Panasonic (Sanyo) NCR GA 3500mAh Nipple Lithium Batteries:

They arrived virtually drained but I couldn't wait for them to charge fully so I used them anyway to get my first beam shot.
Hence the beam isn't at it's full potential - pardon the pun. :crackup:

Unfortunately I didn't have a suitable tripod clamp strong enough to hold it sturdy enough for a perfect beam shot, so with the wind it was slightly 'wobbly' and not as cleanly focused as I'd hoped it would turn out on my iPhone.

But for a first beam shot, it was ok.

I plan to keep adding to this thread as I progress up to where I get the corrected optics working and try and get some better beam shots.

So hope you enjoy this for now as it's the best I can do until I get some better clamps etc.

I'm looking forward to getting beam shots of all of the latest additions.
In that shot I was actually holding down the little tripod clamp so the beam was shaky.

Those batteries are good aren't they Jeff?
I'm sure they're high quality since they're similar to what Richard was going to send out but I asked him not to, so as to not complicate the delivery any more than we had to.

Good one Pete, yeah I've seen these lasers being given away free when you buy four UltraFire batteries on ebay too
I'll try and maybe make a video to show how big and how bright this thing really is.

Beam shots are meh and as common as dingoes. You've seen many yourself and probably have the same reaction. Why I'm not dazzled though is because this beam shot looks no different than a 5mW beam shot. Too truely dazzle us find a target several thousand feet away and show the spot. Arcticdude has you may have seen his postings. I have a 500mW green laser, 121mW and a 5mW and a target approximately 11000 feet away. The 5mW does not produce a visible spot. The 121mW does a little, but the 500mW produces a very obvious visible spot.

P.S. That brand battery looks exactly like the KeepPower brand. Which is a good quality battery.

Now be patient with me, I have a lot I want to achieve and a lot of new toys to play with so it may not be an immediate thing with the "distance beam shot".
I need to plan it out properly to achieve what I want to do.

They seem legit, they took a long time to fully charge but that's no guarantee :crackup:

That's exactly what I have in mind Paul but with a little bit of a different twist.
I'm thinking of a target approx. 500m/1650 ft away.
Just need to plan this well and see if it's feasible.

Hey .. we want to see the beam with the correction unit and the beam expander mounted
Please remember that the Linos Variable Magnifications Beam Expander permit to modify not only the focus but also the magnification.
As the first step is better to set the magnification (first ring) and second the focus (hold on the first ring with the fingers).
When You will change the magnification, You must re-adjust also the focus.
Probably at 10x the output beam will be partially truncated by the last output lens. This depend how much tiny is the dimension of the input beam.
You must play a lot looking at the beam shape against the output lens (be careful do not look directly but cross!): if the edge of the beam shape
touch the edge of the lens, probably You must reduce the magnification rotating the first ring.
Remember also that big magnification create output fat beam, but permit also to focus small spots at greater distances.
If You set well the correction unit, the cooperation corrective optics+beam expander+1350 mW will create a little weapon

Excellent, thank you Richard for the info.
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions still because B.E and things like this are all still new to me.

I've had a quick try at assembling it all up with the Linos but only holding everything, not screwed in.
I'm waiting on some super clamps because I didn't realise how big this is and I need a good s.clamp to hold it securely.
I don't want to risk damage so I'll wait till the s.clamps arrive.

Just a quick question, what's the duty cycle on the unit?
It seems very able to sink the heat well but I was still cautious to only run it at around 30 sec at a time.
The room looked like a geriatric's disco.... :crackup:
