Watertight Rifle sight laser build 405nm

I decided to build another laser. This time one that could be used on a rifle. It was hard. This laser has 2 removable circuit boards, a swappable diode and lens assembly, it runs on a 10280 battery and can be disassembled completely and assembled within 5 minutes. And the lens surfaces on the interior do not condensate in a pan of boiling water or -30 Celcius, yes, i tested it. Nor does it damage the rest of the pen

It has a battery management circuit (turns off when battery is under 3.05V) or when the driver is overheating to prevent damage to the electronics or the battery.

An anodized aluminum Hugsby XP-1 flashlight host which has been modified to get al the parts perfectly in there and get everything to seal properly. Also machined a custom bracket to keep every part perfectly apart from each other.

The 2 circuit boards are wrapped in a heat dissipation film, similar to the ones they use in mobile devices, which then are put in a 12mm tube, heatsinked to the host with thermal paste. The driver and such are located at where the "hugsby xp-1" logo is.

The diode and lens module can be disconnected from the driver at any time. It is not soldered to the circuit board, but connected with lvds wire from a laptop and a micro connector with socket. This makes it swappable. The lens assembly has absolute dry air inside to prevent condensation or fungus or any other undesired crap

Next year i probably won't have enough time because of my study to build another laser as building them at this scale is a pain in the ass and requires a lot of time. Its unfortunately not made within a week. It takes months to get everything to fit properly and not shorting or rattling. And to get every seal right.

Enjoy:D

Its a perfect rifle sight and looks military :)

Re: Watertight Rifle laser build 405nm

That's a very good looking 405nm Hugsby! You have definitely put a lot of work and effort into it to insure it's water tightness and interchangability.
Be sure to keep building as you can find the time to do so, and of course, stop by and show us the results! :)

^ What BTG said, liking the mini Hugsby!

Where did you get that 10280? I ordered some 10180s and 10280s on aliexpress a couple weeks ago, maybe we bought from the same listing.

Hi, thanks! i also bought the 10280 from aliexpress as an set of 4 in may 2016. But after that the seller took his item offline and since haven't been able to find 10280. Costed me around $12 and they work like a charm!

Very nice and tiny. Do you know what power it outputs? Just curious as 405nm is not the most visible wavelength.

Hi, thanks! I think it outputs between 80mW and 120mW. The current is set at 140mA. The beam is easily visible in the night without fog but the dot is hard to see at distance unless pointed at something that fluorescent

Too bad they don't have fluorescent game animals. That would make it very easy.

Here are the listings I bought from:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4pc...32803709579.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5aJT85

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4pc...32803705663.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.5aJT85

They look like what you were describing, batch of 4. I'd say they're priced very fairly considering how hard they are to find.

yes those where exactly what i bought. I got 2 blue batteries with a vent cap and 2 purple ones without a vent cap. They perform the same. Nice deal

Man, those must be tiny. At 200 mAh not much run time there.
yea if you use them straight from the charger, at least on my build. It lasts 45 minutes. If you leave it a day it would be 25.
But i have an extension part so i could use a 10440 for longer run time
