Hi guys
I've been told by Adam from Dragon Lasers that he Hasn't shipped a laser to Australia for a few years know and due to the increased customs issues he is not able to ship to me and therefore would like to refund my money.

I want this laser so bad and have asked if he could dismantle it as much as possible and ship in 2 separate packages, I'm yet to receive a reply about this.

I wonder if anyone has disassembled the Spartan 589 and knows if it's possible to extract the module, I really need some assistance or advice, possibly a trustworthy member willing to assist with a US address and willing to dismantle the laser as much as possible and ship to Australia in 2 separate packages.

Now I realise they are fragile and if not taken apart carefully the Chrystal and optics could be knocked and misaligned or possibly broken, witch is why I need someone with a little experience, unfortunately this is probably my only option to
Acquire a 589 laser and just has to be done.

I don't have much disassembly experience but I can be willing to ship to Australia if need be. Ultimatekaiser is probably the most adept here at taking these things apart without breaking anything so he would know the safest way to ship it! :)

I took the front cap off mine and it looks like they've glued it in there pretty well. The module looks similar to my JetLasers 532 module and it looks fairly sturdy. The module looks like its removed with those special wrenches that use the two prongs. Not sure what its called, but removal definitely looks possible. I'm not gonna fool around with mine anytime soon though :p

Thinking of a pin wrench? Those would come in handy.

Not in a million years would I think of disassembling a 589nm dpss handheld. Maybe one of the more skilled members. OP I've noticed lasers get through customs without trouble as long as they're not declared as "lasers pointer" and do not include batteries. Something more vague like "LED flashlight" or "electronics" would be the better solution IMO.

Not true unfortunately.
I've had a laser seized by customs and it was in pieces, two separate packages and labelled as flashlight components.
I bought the Krypton Grove from Grainde and he is an experienced shipper.

So no, no guarantees it will fool Australian Customs if you ship it in pieces and label it as Flashlights/electronics unfortunately.
I ended up buying my 589nm from Eforce in Melbourne, Aus and had to pay through the nose but I got an 80mW beauty.

Hope you get yours through somehow Billy.
Maybe look at Eforce, contact Jason.

It's really that bad eh? Didn't know they were that strict about it. Never had a problem with customs here (not anything laser related at least), I'll consider myself lucky.

To be truthful, I think I was just unlucky too.
But all my other lasers have arrived except this one.
I even told them it was for Astronomy and that I was allowed to have it since I'm a member of an Astronomical Society !
But they wouldn't budge.

I think it was also the fact that it looked like a pointer too that made them suspicious.
The first package arrived, which was the back button and focus ring and lens but the actual laser was taken.

Grainde was very helpful and tried his best to get it through but in the end, no dice.

Thanks Hap!
Just waiting to get a reply from Adam and if he's not willing to assist I might very well have it shipped to you mate,

I can pay you to extract the module carefully!

Damn, this is the first I've heard of you losing your beautiful Kryton groove to Australian customs, that sucks big time! :yabbmad:

Good luck badboy, I sure hope you find a way around the customs nightmare; when you finally get your 589nm, you're going to love that golden yellow color!

Hi yep I have spoken to Jason but he quoted me $2000 about a month ago even the module was similar price, There is no way I'm paying that for a 589 I might as well get a 488 diode for half that price.

I wouldn't dream of disassembling a spartan. The module is typically glued in there, and dragon gets them pre-built from CNI, so they probably don't want to disassemble one either. Your best bet would probably be to have somebody ship one hidden in another item. IE, hide the spartan inside of a cheap audio speaker or something.

If you were in my position you would dream about it every night,

If I can trust someone to try that I don't even know this must say how bad I want one,

I wouldn't put $500 cash in a speaker and hope they don't find it, anyway been looking at these Spartan,s a lot and even if there is some glue on the outer brass ring the insides look pretty tough and well built,

Edit
This module might not be from a Spartan!

Seems kinda logical actually. Just have somebody unscrew the back panel of a cheap speaker, and pack the spartan in there surrounded by bubble wrap. I can't imagine customs disassembling a speaker to check for hidden lasers. If they X-ray stuff I could see this method failing though. That would make things much harder, although still doable if somebody really thought about it.

I wouldnt recommend it either. Only one laser has ever been stopped and that went to Andrew in Oz, even though I dismantled it and split it into two packages...It would also be a shame to end up with a broken 589 if it were to get damaged when taking it apart. Are bare modules or lab parts allowed over there, perhaps you could go that route?

Edit: At Razakao I wouldnt try that either lol. I really wouldnt put them past checking and youd probably be accused of smuggling...
