Looking for IR handheld

Hi LPF

Recently I've been looking for a IR 808nm or 980nm laser (preferably 980nm so it's completely invisible but 808nm works too) >400mw for about $60-70 shipped. That might be too low of a price, and I've seen a few 1w ones for about $100 not shipped, but I thought I'd ask here in case anyone is clearing out their collection. Needs to be handheld, so maybe 16340, 18650 or 14500 type battery.

I also just purchased a pair of 190-540/800-2000nm eagle pair goggles from survival laser for $60, so I will be keeping my seeing balls safe.

Look into buying a true 150+ mw 532nm DPSS laser pointer with adjustable focus, take out the crystals and move the collimation lens to be able to focus the IR power to infinity and there you go, now you have an IR laser. Any DPSS 532nm laser which will do a true 150 mw of output (after IR filtering) should be close to 400 mw of IR coming out of the pump diode.

IR isn't very interesting anyway, that and the added problems due to zero blink response or being unable to know if a strong reflection is occurring makes it far more restrictive than a beam you can see.

Word of warning - unlike visible lasers, it is NEVER okay to use an IR laser without goggles on. So please remember to always use your goggles. :beer:

Yeah I pm'd him so if the price is right I will. And I certainly will wear goggles. Of course you can't see the harmful reflections from IR, plus the fact that there is no benefit from not wearing them, cause the laser is nearly invisible.

Sorry for the double post, but just fyi I got what I was looking for. Alien Laser offered me a pretty good deal on his 808nm laser which is 1+ watt. I declined because I couldn't afford what he was asking, (which was very reasonable :crackup. I also was looking more for a 980nm so it would be completely invisible. So tonight I ordered the Laserbtb 980nm 800mw handheld and I think I'll be happy. I really like all the safety features. It allows me to let curious people look at the laser and stuff, without turning it on, if I have the key.

I have to say that I'm so glad I went with laserbtb because of the safety features. I was showing some lasers to a friend recently and had the 980 sitting on the table, when someone else came up and wanted to use it. I told the person not to turn it on (they didn't have the key anyways), but they proceeded to press the on button and peer directly into the aperture. I was so grateful that it required a key to operate. I was literally shaking. It's invisible so out of curiosity people want to find why they can't see it. They don't realize that that will be the last thing they find out with their eyes. :tsk::wtf:
