I just purchased and tested the Nichia NUBM44 6+W laser from DTR and it is amazing! I have the 35mm copper module, G-2 glass lens, 4.5 Amp driver, and 2x 18650 3.7V Lithium-Ion batteries.

I am seeking a skilled craftsman to make me an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber host from The Phantom Menace (TPM), not the one from A New Hope (ANH). The TPM host would look like these pictures.
Please let me know if you can deliver on such a request.

Here is a min .45 size lightsabre adapted from an MR model : http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/star-wars-episode-ii-anakin-skywalker-s-mini-lightsaber-laser-445nm-500mw-98165.html MAybe you can d something like that.

Nobody can tell you if they can adapt a 6W diode in that host without all the dimensional information of the MR host. Is there anywhere on the MR replica you have that you could hide a 35mm module in?

I doubt anyone is going to build from scratch a replica scaled up to accomodate a 6W diode---not for less then $1000 plus so you as stuck with adapting the MR you have----of course that would also destroy the MR collectable value.

Maybe someone could do something with one of these which are $170 http://www.ultrasabers.com/product-p/stunt-guardian.htm?gclid=CPHhg5yssM4CFYtahgodxIwIYA&opZero=sel

I chatted with their online helpdesk and he said that lightsaber "The Guardian" has a 1" OD LED module, since the 35mm module is 1.37795 inches this will not work. The helpdesk said to email the owner about scaling it up so I am waiting to hear back from him. I will keep you posted on what he says, and thanks for the input:D

You would be much better off with a good laser that has the looks and all of the best laser features and functions--reality being better than fantasy, generally speaking.

Have a look at: PL-E Pro series lasers - JETLASERS.ORG

I believe that DTR has 25mm modules available, which are almost exactly 1 inch. Perhaps one of those would work for you?

I have already purchased the 35mm copper heatsink with the diode preset in it. There's no going back now :p

You should have had a approriate host that could take that 35mm in mind before buying it.
That being said, tell DTR you didn't know what you were doing and just bought the largest heatsink module without thinking thing through about what to do wth it--perhaps DTR wuld be willing to exchange it for you and give you a 20mm or 25mm instead. He could press it out and put it into a 20mm or 25mm for you---would guess no or minimal charge. DTR has been very helpful to a lot of members.

The 25mm module would fit that 1" OD LED module opening quite well. This is definitely a good idea, however; the diode running at 4.5 Amps generates a lot of heat, in fact when I have it on for only 20 seconds at a time it gets pretty warm in my hand. I am scared that the 25mm module would decrease the longevity of the diodes. Additionally, the ultrasaber uses 14500 batteries and I need to use 18650 batteries...

A smaller heat sink will work, you just gotta remember that you'll have a shorter duty cycle.

Ask DTR about the heat aspect also more importantly what host the module you have will fit in/can be used with.
DTR sells those diodes in 12mm, 20mm, 25mm and 35mm they all work well or he would not be selling them--they just need to be installed in an appropriate host that dissipates heat well

Okay I am pretty much sold on the 25mm copper module...

but will two 14500 batteries be able to output the 4.5 Amps and ~4.5 Volts of power I need?

MrCrouse, a LPF member used to make sophisticated hosts, but stop building them, but word is, if the project is big enough or requires enough work, he will build something for you. Contact him through PM here, he might respond but don't expect him to take it on for under 1K.

Thank you for that valuable information, however; I do not wish to spend $1000 dollars on a host alone. I am sending the diode and module back to DTR to get it replaced with the 25mm module so that it will fit in the Ultrasaber host. I will be purchasing the Guardian from Ultrasaber and will make a new post on my build with it. :thanks:

I've been asking on the Ultrasabers forum (as I want to do this myself, with the Azure Reaper hilt) but the people there have been mostly useless. The main problem seems to be fitting the batteries in.
The best way to power a laser like this is with two 32650s, which are just wide enough to fit into an Ultrasabers hilt.
However, the problem is fitting two of them in there. If the distance from switch to the start of the pommel is not greater than 13cm, the build is impossible.
The Guardian is also basically impossible to disassemble. How are you going to get a battery contact board in there?
