Question about 520nm 1.2 Watt

Hey I was looking at getting a green laser.. Does anyone know if the 1 plus watt 520 has good divergence? I want a bright laser but I also want good divergence. Any help is appreciated.

No it doesn't. It has terrible divergence due to the emitter size of the MM diode. It can be made to have better divergence, but only with the addition of a lot of optics.

The divergence of the NDG7475 is the same as the A140/M140/NDB7875 diodes, which is not bad. It could be better, but it is much better than, say, a NUBM07E or NUBM44.

Yeah, that's right. I don't know which diode I was thinking of. Comparing it to the 44 is like comparing it to the worst diode for divergence out there.

So what diode would be best for divergence? Is there a 520 that reigns king for being able to carry a visible beam longest?

I think any 520 around that power level will have roughly the same poor beam specs. You'd really need a single mode for good beam specs, but then it won't be nearly as powerful. If you really want a good beam that goes FAR, look around for a higher power 532nm DPSS. JetLasers sells some higher power ones that would destroy any typical 520nm diode in distance of beam visibility.

Edit: Of course, beam specs can be fixed with more complicated optics. You said "get" not "make" though, so I'm not sure you're wanting to do that.

What diode will shoot a visible beam the farthest? That's what I am wanting to know... Doesn't matter what color or nm. Just want a good visible beam that will go for miles

That's really subjective based upon optics, wavelength, and power. If we're talking about shining a beam from the top of a mountain and driving away with conventional 12mm module optics, probably the BDR-209 405nm since it's got the best beam specs for the power. Not going to be very bright though, so it might not be all that visible from the perspective of the laser.

Otherwise, a whole bunch of optics on a ~470nm or ~520nm diode would likely come close and be a lot brighter.

Any decent high power DPSS module would do just as well if not better with beam specs though. No idea where to source just modules over 200mW myself though.

A good, focusable 532nm DPSS laser would do the trick much better than any multimode diode. I'll defer to others on suggestions for particular lasers since I really haven't had too many recently.

Are you looking to build one, buy one, or have one custom made? You should probably give a price range too since these can get very expensive.

orrr... if you want my 1312mw (it's actually been tested over 1.4W) 520nm for $250..

Here's a similar setup with a 7mm to 9mm EFL Plano-Maniscus that reaches out quite far with a nice thick solid beam coming down to a fine point - however, the camera doesn't quite capture the beauty of the line in person - I tried.. I decreased exposure to 1/60th in hopes of capturing the fine point and "elongated cone" shape of the beam, but no luck. I actually just tested this lens against a China G-2, of which the ones I procure test within 2% of the original US 405-G-2 on average, and it tested 8% STRONGER than the G-2, which should put it 6%, give or take, above the original 405-G-2.

when it comes to clean beams, I find the lpc 826 660nm hard to beat. they have dim beams, but it is visible. with a three element lens on, they can go really insanely far without diverging much. even with a g lens they are crazy good. I could clearly see the dot of mine on a target I later measured to be a mile away. cheap diodes too. burn one out, you are out $10 tops. that's a high price for the diode

I cant tell for sure if my 405nm diverges less, because at these distances I cant see the 405nm dot, it's too dim a WL

Well I just F it and went with a 1.4 Watt 520nm with a Element 3 lens.... I'll let you guys know how I like it... I'm gonna get a 532nm next.
