The Plan/ Question

Hi, Im buying a new diode for my new Ti (titanium) host which has a aluminum press head that sinks not too much heat, but strong enough to crush aluminum or copper..

As you know DTR has a lot of great diodes but the Osram PLP520-B1 diode is crazy expensive (75$ for a single diode) and only able to output 200mws. Also considering this is my second laser build but my first direct press build..

My idea at green lasers is that there is less Mw's produced but still able to keep up the visibility that the M140 have less heat the diode burn because I'm using a relatively small pen host. (See pics below for the host)

You may suggest me to ANY Wavelenght and color, just consider that with the host and my power supply. (14650)

If anyone have a suggestion, feel free to shoot me a Pm and I will take it seriously, thank you for your cooperation.

The HOST/Housing

This pen sized host holds 1x 14650 3.7v so I must use a x-boost drive to reach my expectations

This host is a DIRECT PRESS host. No setscrew visible!!

Remember to use the Relative Perceived Brightness Calculator.

It will give a good idea about brightness (dot, beam), nm, mw.
I'm practically doing the same type of build, small Ti host, aluminum heat sink, X-Boost. I decided to go with the PLP520-B1, good brightness, good beam specs, low power (less heat hopefully). By the calculator 200mw of 520nm is a little bit brighter than 1500mw of 445nm. Have fun with your build.:yh:

I think you're correct Pete, I just received a similar titanium host from ehgemus, and it uses an 18650 or two 18350 batteries.
I'm going to use a 515nm diode in mine, if I ever receive it.

Although it's quite accurate, it really differs from person to person. I, for example, compared a ~1W 405nm with a >50mW 532nm. I found the 405nm to be brighter than the 532nm, although the calculator says the beam should be comparable to a ~16mW 532nm.

Are you sure you don't mean 18650?
There are 14650 batteries on EBAY if you don't know, these batteries are slim to fit in my host, which was a copy of Dtr's 1.6w pen host w/duel flex drives but different material.

You should go with 1w 520nm, that's a great host you have, and is it direct press or module?

I was using that the whole time. I measured 200mw to 2W and it did not quite reach the visibility 2W have..

If you want something bright, green laser is your only choice. Maybe a 50mw PL520 diode with driver and G2 lense from DTR ($100) or 515nm diode with a x boost from Flaminpyro ($55) or those cheap dpss 532nm diode
Thanks, I will look forward to that.

I don't know about that, hopefully it shows some accurate details.

Thats a cool host, where did you get it? And try a 9mm nichia, theyve gone down in price

I made it a spific order with ehgemus to make this based on the batteries.

If you can tell me some direct press tips, I don't know too much about those. I don't know if my head is 9mm or 6mm or 12mm.

Thanks

Does the host requires a 12x30 module? If it does, it is not direct press fit. From what I know, the Ti host Ehgemus sell requires Aixiz housing.

It's all titanium but a little of aluminum at the diode HEATsink. By that means it's direct press.

It is a great host; my Ehgemus titanium host is made for a 12mm module.
I think I'm going to stick with the 515nm for the titanium host, and I'm going to put my 1W 520nm in this Ehgemus host below.

Yea, I seen that host. Beware you might need some metal polish for the copper overtime so you might go with the Ti host, considering its also ten times stronger than ALu or Cu. Does it have setscrew visible? Somehow I do not like hosts that have setscrew visibility, making it look un-sturdy and not "professional" to me.
EDIT: is the screw also visible on your Ti host?

If you want to get crazy, you can make Ti outside and copper heatsink inside covering everything and to cover the setscrew with the focus ring..

I like pen sizes hosts because you can carry them in your pockets and if your moving to someplace, it's a little less risky getting caught with it being small. It also amazes me and others (probably) to see such power comin out such a small host.
