Hey friends,

I've been watching a few videos about fire safety lately(for some reason) and saw that the idea of having a fire extinguisher in your car is evenly distributed on it's practicality.

I went ahead & bought a $20 2.5 Gal A,B,C rating one for use in my car, just in case I ever happen to need it, or find someone else who needs the use of it.

What do you folks think? Im a little safety crazy so this seems logical to me :D

Yes very smart Alex :D excuse the pun. Police vehicles all carry one and for good reason, also boats if they're over a certain size are required by federal law to have them, and in some places they are required in a motor home or travel trailer. You're more likely to need one at home but you never know. Once a month pick it up and shake it some, also check the pressure gage and be sure it's not in the red or it may be unreliable at that point, it should also have an expiration date on the bottom, again at that time buy a new one.

Yes you never know what can LeHappen :crackup: does it have a U.S.C.G. Approval number on it, it likely does if it's type A,B,C, be aware these would be a dry chemical model and produce a fine mist of particles that you shouldn't breath, so don't point it a person unless they are on fire and try not to use it from down wind if possible.

I saw a car that had a chemical extinguisher emptied inside the drivers side of the car in retribution for something as an act of vandalism, ruined the car! You can't get that stuff out of your electronics, switches etc. afterwards.

I think its a great idea you went out and did it instead of the (I should one of these days). about putting it in the trunk, was that recomended by what you read. Its good if you need be to help someone else, but what if you needed quick access for you God willing. Your car looks good by the way!:)

I accidently set off the powdered one in the work ute. Everyone had to bail out couldn't breathe.
 
Wal-mart sells these little disposables that would be easy to toss a couple behind the seat or in the trunk.

You guys got me to realize that I should have these not in just my car but in the home. As it stands right now the only thing I have to combat fire is kevlar gloves and that's not enough.

Yes everyone should have at least one, or in a house you need more than one, a fire can get out of control real fast. When I was about 20 or so I lived in an apartment in Seattle and I had an old Sony 19" TV that had a pile of magazines on top of it, my electricity was temporarily out because I didn't pay the bill so I was burning candles, you can guess what happened when I fell asleep with a candle burning on top of the TV. I woke up and put it out with water, yes on top of the TV. Fortunately I didn't set the 8 unit building on fire but it was close. I also had an electrical fire at the other trailer I live in that I put out with my hands, it set the wall on fire! Good thing I was right there when it happened. Now there is a good fire extinguisher there. That reminds me the one in this trailer is too old and too small, I need to get a new one.
