Hi!

The pcb board snaped while trying to press it in the brass ring! It was just a little bit to wide!

Ordered the pcb blank board from Survivallaser and have to wait some more time now!

Meanwhile I will practice to solder wire to wire! ;)

Holy cow how hard were you pressing on the PCB!? You did sand down the edges to remove the little rough parts right?

Yes I did! But I think I should have sand it down even a little more!

It broke on the edge not literally snapped in the middle!

Shxx happens! :p

I start my first build as soon as I get my 9mm 445nm Module from DTR, and this has thread has answered quite a few of the questions I have had. Mine is going to be in the Sky Ray host offered by Zerolasers but all the concepts seem to be the same.

Good luck bro. Those 9mms are quite impressive diodes for sure. I'm always tempted to want to massively over drive them seeking out ridiculous outputs XD

Not trying to hijack this thread but would two 3 volt cr123s give me the same output as two 3.7 18650s? I have a buck driver from SL.

No, they cannot handle the sustained high current nearly as long as the Li's. Plus they will cost you far more.

Thanks ApexProxy, I will have pics up as soon as I get all the pieces. I will do a complete step by step, DTR build. I got my Sky Ray SR5 host already. The pill and contact board are soldered in along with the connection wires. All that I have left once the Module + X-Drive get here is to heat sink the driver and then solder the wires together. I'm so stoked.

Hi!

It`s done! I finished my build on friday!

First of all I must confess I really wasn`t aware how powerful that thing is!

As a matter of facts I have burnt a whole in a dark brown pillow and left 2 little burning marks on my wooden door just in seconds!

Now I really know why many of you told me there is no need to have it run longer than about 30 seconds!

For my purposes I`m happy with such a "short" duty cycle!

I would be pleased if you would visit my thread and leave your comments, because without your help and support I may never would have make it!

I have already taken a few beamshots and even made a little burning video!

I did not read every post here...
but this may clear up any Qs we have on protected Li-ions.

When we use primary batts(non rechargables) they run down- quit working and we (hopefully ) dispose them and a eco friendly manner.

If you use an unprotected batt (often called 'flat top') and run them all they way down those too are now dead in most cases, so they too must be tossed out.
Li-ions are the opposite from some other kinds of rechargeable that you SHOULD run all the way down.

If you buy the more $$ protected cells (called 'button tops') the extra length is due to a small PCB at the + end that 'protects' your batt ( & this your investment) these cannot be ran dry OR overcharged. - so charge wisely all your flat tops- buy a smart charger like the i2 NiteCore ( I can sell you one for 15$)

One last bit of info
some hosts work fine with either types- some need a spacer (like a small magnet) to add the missing length & make a good connection and some do not.
in a few the tailcap will not quite be completely go on as far with the longer cells-
Its a trade off- JETLASERS are often built with this in mind- you may need a spacer when using flat tops-- ALSO if you EVER find that a battery BARELY fits- do not force it into the battery tube- as getting it back out may be VERY hard- these create a vacuum and are a PITA.
I had a 26650 like that and the fix was easy all i had to do was remove the paper label on the batt.
