The CIE data in reflectivity (dot reflectance) is pretty solid. But I've not been able to work out the Raleigh scattering (beam visibility) numbers to my satisfaction. So I can agree they don't hold up to real world comparison.

But 5x is not too far off. A 2000mW 445nm blue does look close to a 300mW 532nm green, shown into the night sky.

Raleigh scattering shouldn't enter into the equation in regards to specific spectra unless you're dealing with miles of atmospheric volume and lines of sight just as long.

The CIE luminosity function that puts 555nm at the peak is also bantered about quite a bit in lighting forums to an almost humorous extent. It's a big issue with road lighting when it comes to high pressure sodium advocates -vs- white light, and the debates get nasty because millions of dollars are on the line. The curve is actually / biologically has two humps based on cones and rods, and our poor eyes aren't linear anyways, but yeah, 555nm is brighter per energy level than 445nm and 650nm. How much get's into some ridiculous math.

My 1watt 445nm projector based diodes aren't nearly as 'bright' as their 80mW green counterparts spinning nearby. However, the 445 will do a lot more damage if exposed to your eye. 638's have a pretty fat beam, and that works against them being visibally bright. Dollar per dollar and watt per watt 532nm will have the most visibility at night.

Thanks for that guys ill be making a 200mW green :D Has anyone had experience with these hosts and which one do you think i should get? Waterproof & Focusable Laser Torch Host for 12x60mm Module w/h 450nm Glass Lens | eBay i wont use the lens in this one, if i get it i am just hoping the lens from the green is the same thread. Case/Housing/Host for Focusable Waterproof Laser Pointer/Torch GD-350 Type | eBay I am pretty sure it is the same thread as the glass lens in the green modules. What do you think, how do you think it wold go together?

Honestly, a 200mW laser for a 14 yearold isn't safe at all.

But I guess you'll get one anyway. Do yourself a favour and grab some safety goggles also.

In my opinion, stick to a 5mW greenie.

I kind of took that offensively because not every 14 year old is an idiot. I already have the safety glasses for the corresponding wavelenght, i never use a laser over 5mW without saftey's. Most people think that because im 14 i am just a little immature ass

The majority of people under age 18 (IMO, under 25) are regarded as immature. Hopefully we all know that there are exceptions, as with everything else. We cannot say that all 14 year olds are immature, just as we cannot say that all 40 year olds are mature. However, getting mad over something like this demonstrates your immaturity; a mature person would accept the fact that most see 14 year olds as immature, even if some 14 year olds are more mature than 20 year olds.

IMO this shows it. However, I will never know for certain, as I am not directly talking to you and do not know your tone in which you would say this.

I may be wrong but I have a younger brother around your age and I know he and all his friends are not mature at all.

I can imagine them with some high powered laser and no safety wear.

Younger kids like to experiment with things, and I understand that, but with something that could basically blind you in an instant and children playing around pointing at each other without knowing the real dangers.. Just an accident waiting to happen.

Your friends nagging you to let them use it, they take it and instantly point it at you. Game over.

Well im sorry, if we got off on the wrong foot then. I was just saying that not every 14 year old is an idiot and i get where you guys are coming from. I understand the risk of having lasers, these are defiantly not toys and none of my friends will be in control of it, only me. So what do you say, we all good?

I have those GD-350 type hosts. The lens holder that comes with them holds an Aixiz type lens, 9mm X 0.5mm. The "heatsink" is a press-fit aluminum plug with a 12mm hole, and no hole for a set screw. Not all 12mm modules will press in tightly as most are really under 12mm. There is no seperate pill for holding a driver, you'll have to fabricate something solid to hold the battery contact. The chinese builds in these solder the driver to the diode pins then glue the driver board to the back of the module. They use a driver mounted spring for the battery contact.

are the aixiz threads the same as the lens in a green laser module? I think they would be because there is another host that is for green and says gd-350 type and there has been a review of it on here. does the lens holder screw into the inside of the head?

Not normally, most green modules use different threads on the lens. It'll take a little setup time to get your movable lens set properly to collimate your beam over the focus range you wish to cover. You'll get some good experience in the process.

Edit: The lens holder presses or glues in, the lens screws into that and can be glued once set.

i can just put an aixiz acrylic lens in there i guess, and does the lens holder screw into the inside of the head and then the lens screws into the holder and do you focus it by turning the whole head once you get is focused to infinity with the head screwed on fully? Sorry for the questions, i just wanna learn more about the host.

Lensholder is in the head, shown here on the left. This is a 500mW 405nm build in one. The real GD-350 style host the lensholder threads in, some of the chinese copies it presses or glues in.

Edit: Yes, turn the head to focus.

Thanks mate, seems the only difference between these hosts are one has a green clicky. Will be getting one soon
