Good First Laser?

Welcome to the forum.

That looks like a reasonable laser and I have read good things about the company.

Goggle wise those will work for you.

Don't forget a battery and charger too!

Thanks Bro! Btw Is this forum Still Active?
I love it here And it Suits My new Laser addiction Very nicely!

This forum is active, but the community isn't as big as other forums since it is a niche hobby.

You may want to consider getting better goggles. I have bought many pairs like those and there are some that work, and some that don't. I doubt the specs specified (Especially the 55% VLT are true) are from actual testing, they are probably made up. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah well haha
I dont think im gonna get a infra red laser anytime soon
Prob aint gonna have my first one for a couple more months just because funds are alittle bit short And what does a infra red filter do on a laser? kinda confused about that.. and will the laser im looking at have one?

You have to keep this in mind. A cheaper green lasers typically don't have ir filters. Out of the apature of the cheap laser there will be both 532nm and 1064nm light depending how much ir leaking there is, it could be harmful to your eyes.

Keep in mind these are for either lower powered non-ir-filtered or ir filtered lasers.

Yes, that is what their website says. I'm pretty sure that green laser has IR filter but it is best to ask just to make sure. :yh:

ok well ive sent a couple inquirys all ready but got no response so ima wait for a reply before i send another one is that a good idea?

Please read a bit about how DPSS lasers, like green lasers, work.

That laser is not IR filtered.

I don't know about that laser in particular. But since some cheaper pointers I've seen had filters, I thought this more expensive one probably has one too. That is why I said it's best if the OP checks with seller.

These dpss lasers use crystalline KDP to generate the second harmonic (green light at ~530 nm), or the third harmonic (UV light at ~350 nm) if you mix the remaining IR and the second harmonic, etc. Most of the incoming IR (~1.05 microns) angular frequency ω is converted into the higher frequency 2ω. I'm NOT saying you don't need protection (you do), but it is a small fraction in far-infrared. Maybe that's why they did not filter the laser.

I think thorlabs sells certain goggles that protect against IR and green simultaneously but they are not cheap either.
