Hello guys!

I just noticed that i forgot my handheld in the car and it was heated up pretty bad. I shortly turned it on and it had almost no power left. I left it now to cool down. Does it do any harm to the laser when it gets heated up from the outside?

I don't think so. Lasers will heat up all the time when lit on. Maybe the batteries don't like the heat. Measure the voltage of the batteries before using it in the laser.

but it usually doesnt get that hot on the outside. the question is probatly, how hot did it get inside... ill test it later with fresh batteries. hopefully it didnt affect it.

Normally, the laser is hottest on the inside, and coolest on the outside. This time it is vice versa, so that should be fine.

Electronics are relatively tolerant of high temperatures, provided they're not running.
Many components are rated for 150°C, again, provided they're not running.

What color is your laser ? Only green lasers have crystals.

Just for info, i can tell everyone who is in the same situation as i was, the laser works normal again after cooling down. Maybe the batteries dont like the heat and end up not giving enough power. Dont know what the exact reason was, but now its working normal.

It really depends on the type of the battery as well. E.g. when I was soldering to a coin cell (yes I was an idiot) the voltage dropped to 0.08V when it was still hot.

Thank you for posting your results. More often than not people ask a question and don't bother to share the outcome, leaving all of us curious and disappointed. You're on a great start.

Cheers!
