Do you have a Nikon D90? I'm starting to look into this awesome baby and I thought I could use some of your opinions (I already read an extensive review of it). If you want to sell yours then I could get interested too  ::)!

Thanks in advance  :)

It looks like a really nice camera. If I was going to buy a new one, I'd probably get it. Right now my D50 will have to suffice :)

Too rich for my blood... I'm saving up to buy a used D40 on eBay, they go for about $400 including a lens kit. IIRC the only difference between a D40, D50, and D60 is megapixels, which is why I'd be going for a D40.

Don't know anything about the D90, though nikon makes fantastic dslrs.

The difference between the D90 and the older models is (besides dust cleaning, live view, etc.) that it's really versatile, it works for a lot of different situations.

Yeah, it's really expensive but so far it's the only one I feel that fills my needs.

The D40 and D60 don't have an autofocus motor, so you'll have to make sure any lens you get has a built-in motor (like AF-S). Some lenses don't, like the 50mm f1.8 and older ones.

I have a D90.  It is GREAT.  A lot of people say that Canon is better; I wouldn't know.  I love my D90.  Manual focus is awesome, autofocus system is cool, lots of stuff to screw with.  Macro's good, long-distance, etc.  My only regret is that you can't change ISO, F-stop, and exposure time all at once.  Only two at a time.  Oh yeah, and it can barely see blu-ray.  But besides that, it is amazing.

EDIT: Yeah you can change all three features at a time. I had just forgotten how.

You don't need live view. If you're gonna get a DSLR you'd better use the viewfinder.

Autofocus is for chumps. IMHO if you're buying a DSLR you had better know how to rotate a focusing ring otherwise you'd best stick to point and shoots. (unless I'm missing something and that nikor AF lenses don't have focusing rings)

[edit]No offense intended to people who use autofocus on a DSLR, I'm just saying if you're paying an extra $500 for a camera you should know how to use it.[/edit]

I don't own a D90, but its on my shopping list (when I fall into some money). I've played with a few, and other Nikons, and the D90 is fantastic.

The image quality you get with the D90 is probably the best value you can get from a Nikon camera at the moment, and the movies it shoots are stunning. If you get one, be sure to post some pics.

I bought a D80 about a year before the D90 came out and I love it! From what I've read the three biggest differences are dust cleaning, live view and 720p video capability. If Nikon has kept with their previous strategy, the D90 has a menu geared toward tweakers that are as user friendly as the D40. The D40 is intended for point and shoot users first upgrade to DSLR. I'm not printing posters so the resolution is beyond enough for good photos. I went up in quality for lower noise in dark environments, which it does well at ISO less than 800. The ISO also goes to 3200 so you get get good shots without a flash in very low light while keeping shutter speed down, just don't mind the extra noise. Also for lower light shots a faster lens than the ~f4 that it is usually bundled with would do a great deal to improve the picture. I was gonna upgrade to the D90, but I'd rather save for lenses since they end up costing more than the body!

From what I've heard the Canon vs Nikon thing is really just preference over how the camera works. They are the two most popular brands so renting lenses and other accessories aren't a problem compared to less popular brands.
