Wow you guys are a bit rough on a new guy actually asking a valid question, and unless it's been moved... actually doing so in the right section.

Search bar at the top would be great... IF there was a way to address the slow load times:undecided:

Actually with they way my browser is setup now, load times are down to 2-3 seconds unless there are lots of pictures... which is actually pretty good imo.

It was annoying when pages were taking ~15-20 seconds to load and would jump when the search bar and yet another banner would load, that's not really the case anymore though.

1) Set static height of search bar container.
2) Search bar will then load, but not affect page length.
3) Move search bar back to top.
4) ???
5) PROFIT!

Search bar is better at the bottom because it was loading slow and caused the whole page to move down when it finally did load - which in turn was causing everyone to click on the wrong post.

Wow, I thought it was just Firefox being stupid. Now I know the reason for that obnoxious crap.

Can we have a layout for LPF that puts it to the top maybe?
So those who have problems can use a different layout.

I guess you will need to contact Avery... he's the one that
put it down there to stop the page from shifting while the
the Google Search bar decided to load when most of the
members asked to have it moved to correct that page shifting
problem...

BTW... as it is right now it takes almost 12 seconds to completely
load the [Quick Links/Today's Posts] page...

It's also a good option to lock the height of the HTML element that contains the search bar. This way, it can be at the top of the page, but will just load into its container and not bump everything down the page, as the container is already the proper height.

It's better to treat the problem than just the symptoms... ;)

Remember just because you run a forum does not mean you can code.
Seems like a weird way to solve the problem to bury the search bar at the bottom of the page.

Check your connection/browser. Took <2 seconds to load for me at work, and my connection at work isn't that great:

Currently using SRWare Iron, with adblock plus and ghostery... with all the ads disabled.

Ash's suggestion makes the most sense actually.

Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that Dr.Laser actually created the template, not c0ld....

I have a 1-2Mb Download speed... we are in a rural
area that is served by a central wireless connection
tower..
It has been that speed from before there were any
problems with LPF page loads...

The pages have always loaded in 1-3 seconds until the
funny multiple adds were added at the bottom of the
Forum pages..

as long as you donate money use AD block plus so you never load any ads.
That will help your loading time.

Are you certain you have 1-2 MB speeds? There is a difference between Mb and MB....

Either way the pages should load faster for you. Kill the ads if you haven't done so already.

The main page loads within 2 seconds for me and no
shifting of the page... I can easily live with that and
I can click on any link and am not hindered to do so
in those 2 seconds.

The 12 seconds i was referring to is the time it takes
for the page to completely load including everything
on the page.

Fixed the MB...;)
I added a Speednet test above...

that connection makes me cringe.
So slow and that ping is so high, i wonder what a ping test would look like from you.
pingtest.net
If you want to test it.
It will tell you more about you connection problem and how many dropped packets and jitter is on your line.
