Is what Walgreens did legal?

I went to Walgreens today because my employer is asking all of us to have voluntary wellness checks, we were told our insurance provider will give us a better rate if we just check our health and none of the information would go to them but the form Walgreens gave me asked for a signature to allow the release of all of my medical information to my insurance carrier. Like whattt? I was told that wouldn't happen so I refused to sign it, then when I tried to take the form I filled out with me the pharmacist at the Walgreens here refused to let me take it, saying it's their information.... again whattttt? I didn't want them to have it and I never signed the form! I don't think what they did was legal, what do you think?

I called the store manager a few minutes later and they said sorry, against corporate policy to let that form leave the store. I said I just want the portion of it with my personal information, you can keep the rest of the form and they still refused.

Edited: Correction, I was wrong.

I checked further into this for you. You did the wellness check voluntarily. You already agreed for Walgreens to obtain and have that information about the wellness check. What you did not do is agree to allow the insurance company have said information. Walgreens can have it, but if they share it, you would likely have a case. You would want to check the fine print on the Volutary Wellness Check.

Another thing to consider is that your case would be with Take Care Jobs. Call their Corporate office. Take Care Jobs is who employs the providers.

I would have torn it into 100 pieces and thrown it in the trash...against my strong desire to cram it down his throat.
Better yet would be to look at the paper and say ... oops I made a mistake, tear it into shreds and ask if he wanted this in his hand or in a trash can.
If someone wants to give you the run around while trampling your rights, pull out your cellphone camera and start recording while you ask for their name and the store number, they tend to straighten right up.

In hindsight, I would have never given it to them.

Yea don't feel bad, we have all done it, we say...next time I will read it first.
I just get tired of all the greedy disrespect for individual rights.
Reminds me of a while back I went to a cheap dentist to get a couple of big gold teeth in the back of my mouth pulled, they were filled and crown in gold 30 years ago when I was a kid.
I told them that I didn't want implants because they were way back there and I can live without them.
Anyway I waited over 2 hours and finally sat down in the dentist chair, as I remember his eyes got kinda big when he looked in and saw them, they were big gold buggers.
Anyway before he started I told him I wanted to keep the teeth once they pulled them.
They said they were not allowed to do that because once pulled they would be a bio hazard.
WHAT...The teeth that have been in my mouth for 30 years are a bio hazard?
We argued and it got a little heated, I was and had been in a lot of pain and reluctantly said F-it just pull the dam things you thieves, they said I can leave, I said not until you steal all this gold....you want it or not.....they pulled them.
I know some may say it's some kind of law now but as a child the dentist would give you the pulled teeth.
I hate how times have changed and I'm still mad at my self for not walking out, but they had been hurting for days.
I wish instead of driving there and waiting 2 hours I would have asked the manager on the phone first.

I'm guessing the form also asked for your ss number. Did you fill it in?

I never fill in the box asking for my ss number. Generally speaking, they don't need it to figure out who you are. And all it does is expose very important information to anyone who picks up the paper and looks at it.

If it's mentioned that I didn't fill in my ss number, I make them explain why they need it. Usually they don't know why, "just that it's on the form". After that they usually let it go.

Always read the whole form BEFORE you decide to fill it in. You'd be appalled if you read all the fine print.

note to RedCowboy.

Dental gold is a very low grade of gold. While it can be purified and made into jewelery, it takes a lot of teeth to do that. Gold is not a bio hazard, but the teeth may be. While in your mouth...ok, out of your mouth....biohazard. So the issue may have been in the description of what you wanted. Or that's why he was cheap. Maybe his 'fine print' says he keeps the teeth.

Yea I have been to some doctors that ask for all kinds of info, such as where I work and many other personal things that I can't remember, but I leave it blank.
If they ask I straight out tell them that it's none of your business.
But we know what's coming, for our safety and convince our entire history will be on file and that tiny RFID pill they infect between our fingers will give full access to our medical history the moment we walk in the door.
Paper forms will be for waiver of liability and not much else.

I'm with Alan on this one. I'm gonna have the wife read this thread when she gets home. This is what she does for a living!

I don't remember if I put my SSN on it, but I very well might have. I almost just walked out of the store with the form and forget the whole thing when I saw the signature block saying they would share everything with my insurance carrier at work, this after my HR department head expressly said nothing would be tied to an individuals name! BS!

Anyway, I'm going to take this thread off topic with an interesting link, take a look at this wild stuff... I'd make a link in this section directly to it, but some members become upset with I challenge the norm:
