Default the LEGENDARY TRAX thread

OK, I'm usually not much of an off-topic guy, but I cannot deny the
apparent popularity of this here particular subforum.

So I saw the "trance thread" and figured: yeah, trance is nice but
other music is great too!

I consider myself somewhat of a musical nerd, wouldn't say a snob though,
I have my guilty pleasures. So let me try and every once in a while
post a nice piece of music I think some of you might enjoy (or maybe not ).

I have a broad taste, so you might discover some cool new stuff you never
heard before, or maybe remember an old classic you haven't heard in a while.

I invite people to join in and post their favorites too, but please:
Don't post any recent radio-friendly music off your local hit-parade
if you please, and please refrain from trolling by posting crap music
(you know the kind).

If you have some good stuff you think is not widely known but should be,
or remember a really good track from say, at least 10 years ago, then
go ahead and share.
Not trying to be a nazi here, just trying to maintain some kind of a standard.

Also, if you'd like to spend some time reading about music, I will suggest these two sites,
I consider them both to be biased yet good resources (otherwise I wouldn't post them here):

This one is all in flash and strictly about electronic music:
http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/

This one is in Web 1.0 format and mostly about 50's-70's Rock
http://starling.rinet.ru/music/index.htm

You can expect me to post music from roughly 1960-1990, with
some exceptions of course.

Enough with the yaddayadda, here's a double feature to kick it off:

This is what Danny Elfman did long before composing for the silver screen:

Or if you want something more electronical even older (1980) from Japan:

Lahzors at 2:40.

Hope you enjoyed, see you soon!

Anselm

Today's special: some proper and honest Rock.
Enjoy.

Some good old (Cream, one of the first if not THE 1st "supergroup"):

And some good new (Jack White & friends):

LOL, I love that 80's Japanese electro track

Well here's one for the best sort of music fan, the Metalist, and anyone else who might like it of course

It's a piano cover of "Aesthetics of Hate" originally by Machinehead, for those unfamiliar with these demi-gods.

The lady doing this cover is a professional classical pianist.

Today for some funny shit, music that makes me giggle, aka novelty songs!
Everybody is familiar with Weird Al Yankovic, so here is something different,
I really could go on and on about this, but I'd rather keep it two pieces per post.

Zlad, Electronic Supersonic

And professor of mathematics Tom Lehrer. He has dozens of upbeat, witty, sarcastic,
dark humour songs. This one from 1959 is for the chemistry geeks:

Notice how short and outdated the table is, he even alludes to it at the end
"and there may be many others, but they haven't been discaarver'd"

@bbshamsa:
Nice one, even though I'm not very familiar with Machinehead.
If you enjoyed the Yellow Magic Orchestra, you might wanna check out their album
Solid State Survivor, it's pretty solid.
They were maybe just as important to modern electronical music as Kraftwerk.

The Beatles are one of my all time favorite bands, they sound so fresh
even today. Everyodys ripping them off constantly and shamelessly.
Tell me you cannot recognize the Chemical Brothers were "inspired" by this one:

If you like 60s trippy proto-electronica, then here's another gem from
White Noise's 1968 album "An Electric Storm"

Synthesizers weren't invented yet, the Moog came a few months later.
Very much like the "tomorrow never knows", it's all tapes and loops,
Delia Derbyshire (RIP) also made the classic theme from Doctor Who.

In 1972 a movie called "Super Fly" hit the big screen.
It's a story about a hoe pimpin', dope pushin' african-american.
It helped define the image of the pimp our contemporary posers (rap artist)
hilariously glorify so much.
The suits, hats, the mighty pimpmobile....

But the one thing that made the movie really stand out was the soundtrack
by Curtis Mayfield. Ultra-smooth swinging soul, really the best you can find.
Fuck Mariah Carey-wannabes, this here is the real RNB.

So frickin good, he gets both slots.

Pearl Jam rules. I have 90, yes 90, live Peal Jam concert videos. Thats not including the studio video, and Rockumentaries, and extras no one has. Well not no one, but the elite few. I even have some Mother Love Bone tracks that are not available to the public floating around somewhere. Demo, cuts, ects. There is a huge amount of PJ material out there. Thankfully.

@anselm - Great thread! I wish I could have seen the entire "Thick As A Brick" concert. I'm just a little too young. Beatles, Cream, I grew up on that stuff. My older brother turned me on to all the "classics".

@Tech_Junkie - We have a very similar taste in music. Very good selection! I've seen B.B. King several times, two years ago I took my new wife to see him for her first time. He is certainly the showman!

If anybody has not seen B.B. King in concert, you'd better see him while you can. He's not getting any younger....wait, neither are we!
