I got the 8x's out by bending the heatsink a bit, they just pop out. If you do the same, and have one, it would help me with this test, i'm not sure what i did with mine.. :yabbem:
If on the other hand you cut them appart, never mind.. I'll just have to figure something out (or hope i can find the two 8x heatsinks in the mess).. :whistle:
P.S. What did you do with the 10 LG 8x sleds? :thinking:

I'll get it off to you first of the week. I did NOT keep the heat sinks. The sleds went into the trash where they belong ;) I have a couple of them here to use as reference. Do you want one of the 8X's along with the 12X?

This test was done MUCH more quickly than in the past. With these diodes NOT showing a kink, the old 3mW resolution graphs are not needed. I just took the readings at 50mA intervals. The entire test took less than 20 minutes.

uhm, wait, you tossed all sleds? did you keep/send one empty sled for me, as i asked (igor)? if yes, you can use it, igor, or dave or whoever, to test and compare the diodes! if all are trashed, oh well.. i would never even think about throwing a "new-technology" high-power sled away?

dont worry, i rarely used anything from a sled anyway. by the time i need anything from that special sled, they will be 5$ a bag by then! :)
i'll look for detailed pics of them first.

cant blame igor, with that much work he has. its of no priority whatsoever, we're all here for data and diodes anyway, right?

if its no problem (like you're getting a sled thats not used for anything else anyway) then yes please, i would like to get it! ..especially the circulizer, if not needed for comparison or the like! :)
in no way timecritical, nor any priority at all!

doesnt have to be expensive! get fibers, couple your diode into it, bundle the fibers, use one collimation lens! sure, you will lose a lot with coupling into, it will be a huge setup, it will be annoying to set up, but its doable! cheap (if you come up with a cheap solution to precisely align the coupling lens), and with a quite small "dot"! (effectively the diameter of the fiberbundle)

..if what you need is a tiny dot, for engraving/cutting, for example, this would be a good idea, i think. else i would use cutting mirrors and one large PBS.. less power lost, easier setup (yeah, right!), but larger beam-diameter..

I had thought about this years ago when thinking about making a multicolor laser using RGB modules. I had also thought that maybe high data transfer FIOs would be the best to use but I dont know. I've worked with fiberoptics with my models and they aren't very bright compared to the source

i dont any reasonable success is possible without (3 dimensional) fine-threaded (micrometer) positioning and a LPM for checking the progress.
even with a simple setup, 50% efficiency shouldnt be too difficult. because of the nonlinear response of the eye, that should look dimmer, but not that much..
obviously, the smaller the fiber-core-diameter, the more critical the setup and alignment.
with a good setup, more than 90% efficiency shouldnt be a problem..

(to end the threadjack)
..fiber-coupling 7 or 19 (numbers which "form a circle") 12x BR diodes to a bundle would still make a few-mm thin beam, with several watts! with a clever setup, it could even be portable.. *evilgrin*
this would bring me quite close to my ultimate goal: simply ignite walls and solid wood! :)
(i dont do burning at all, though..)

Manuel,

I have two LG 8x sleds here.. Except for the fact that i used a diamond plated cutting disk to get to the diode heatsink and get it out, they are still "in tact"..

If you want one, it's not a problem...

I just need one 12x sled and one 8x sled to compare optics efficiency, so it's all good... :)

Just wondering, where can I get some fiber ???

I like the idea about the fiber bundle. I'd make a laser rifle out of it hahaha

Imagine like 25 of 12x diodes inside. Even if they end up outputting 400mw each after loss, that's 10 watts of bluray rofl
