I made this series of photos of an IR laser diode of 1W (9mm diode), from various angles, so you
can see their chip from every angle, the layers that compose it, and the connecting wires.

And also I hope this photos serve to show a somewhat different manner (and not only seen them in drawings),
the different layers that make up the chip, in this case of an IR laser diode.

I will say that these photos are not of very good quality, because I do not have a good material to perform it,
but I hope you like them anyway.

Update 02 of May: Added 2 new photos of other infrared laser diode.

For those who want, HERE you have the Link to my other thread with an 405nm laser diode.

Update may 23: Here you have the link to my new thread of an 650nm laser diode.

In these first 2 photos you can see the 4 wires of connection between the chip and the connection pin.

In these 3 photos below, we see very well the active area of the chip.

Also, in this photo below you can see that the chip is somewhat puffed on the right.

Here you can appreciate the different layers that make up the chip.

The following 2 photos belong to a laser diode of the same features but with a small defect in
the active zone, of the left. Added on May 2

In this photo that comes now, of the right side, we see the bad cut in the rear, but you will
see better in other photos, and also that the chip is somewhat puffed up near the back.

In these next few pictures taken from above, you can see perfectly how bad this chip have
been cut, perhaps cutting this with a knife, haha.
Also you can appreciate the 4 wires that connect to the chip.

I took some more pictures, now of a red laser diode, power on-off, and at different magnifications.

I could not make better photos because this diode is mounted in a module, and is to deep inside.

Update 02 of may: added 10 new photos of a another red laser diode (5.6mm - 650nm) that has reached me today.

At this diode I could take pictures at certain angles that I could not do before, because the previous laser diode was installed in a module.

Thanks to all, guys, I appreciate.

My intention is to show at the best I can, a little better the inside of these little devils :eg: that we like a lot.

It is a pity that I don't have better equipment to make best photos, but I do what I can, with what I have :yh:

Yes, my intention is take pictures of all the possible laser diodes, when I can.

I'll gladly do as much as possible.

Useful and interesting idea... and great pics

I ordered several more diodes (405, 635, 650nm) to be beheaded for the sake of science haha :D

Do not worry about the REP Federico, and thanks for the comment

Hi to all, I added 10 new photos in the second post of a another red laser diode (5.6mm - 650nm) that has reached me today.

At this diode I could take pictures at certain angles that I could not do before, because the previous laser diode was installed in a module.

I keep waiting for new 405nm and 635nm laser diodes for taking pictures.

Thanks for looking.

Edit: I also added 2 new photos to the first post, of the infrared diode laser.

These pictures are excellent, especially the ones with the diode on!

Excellent work, piferal, keep 'em coming :D

Thanks Ezcal, I appreciate the comment

Yes, I'm eager for to get the new diodes to remove their hat :p torture them a bit :eg: and make photos of them, haha.

This time I'll try to do measurements of certain parts of the laser diode, such as the chip, the thickness of the bond wires,
and so on, to give a little more information for all.

Excellent pictures, thanks for posting!

The red laser diode in action is amazing -- you can see how the lasing region is only a few nanometers thick as well as individual crystals within the sapphire substrate.

In relation to the measures, as I said earlier, I'll try to take dimensions of various parts to the next
diodes, for a better understanding, and make more interesting for everyone, providing more data.

A very few of us go all the way and do something as cool as this..
Great work man hats off to ya..
+3 when i can, they wont let me atm
