So it was getting a little late, and not want to go to bed i decided to pick up one on my br lasers and shine it around the room. I shined it at the usually bright plastics and watched them glow , but just i was putting it away on my windowsill i bumped the button while flipping the laser around and it made a quick pulse of light on the rock windowsill. Thats when i noticed the glow, not an after image in my eyes.

To test it i closed my eyes and turned on the laser, as soon as i turned it back off, and opened my eyes again, sure enough the windowsill was glowing where the laser hit. It glows an faint green, very similiar to my tritium.

These pics are from my camcorder and are actually frames of film immediately after turning off the laser. You can see it has a hard time adjusting quickly to the darkness and capturing the already faint and short lived glow. They look like streaks cause i would run the laser across the windowsill in front of the camera.

It's called phosphorescence. Some rocks will do that. It is VERY cool to see.

Score one for you!

Peace,

I turned out my light in my room a couple of days ago and noticed 2 splotches on my wall glowing green. My wall is already green and I was wearing my contacts with the lights out which I don't normally do at night. I still have no idea what it was.

Edit: I just went and checked. After shining a flashlight on my wall for a minute I found them again. Must be ectoplasm. brb, gonna go call the Ghostbusters.

De-focus your laser and just go around shining the light on stuff. You may be surprised how much stuff reacts to long wave UV light

Peace,

it all works so much better with yellow 405nm-blocking glasses! :)

gryphon, could you take a daylight-pic of the phosphorecenting stuff?

i found a rock that glows red, for perhaps a tenth second after being lased with blu-ray.. i was almost jumping when i noticed! :)

I have seen the same effect on so many stone floors ad even tiles, I think the tile sealer is a source of phosphorescent "dye'. -Glenn

I've yet to play with a br laser, can they be used on UV reacting minerals? If so, it's time for a visit to the rockshop. Can find some totally cool/cheap rocks to play with.

YOU NEED!!! to play with a blu-ray laser, it's awesome, you can also make old tube TV's glow because you charge the electrons.

Could be someone used some GITD paint on the wall before you moved in. I had whole galaxies pained on my walls when I was younger.

Or...
