I was going through some old stuff at work and came across some female connectors. so i extracted them and plugged it on to a new 635 long pin diode i have. It fit perfect. soi i think this will be perfect to solder leads on to this first then plug to the diode. i haven't tried it yet on an extracted diode. but here are some pics...

Some use these without much problem.

However, remember that it only takes a microsecond of disconnect to charge and release the spike from capacitors.

My recommendation is to always use solder connections between the driver and the diode

That looks like a portion from a SIP memory module connector from the 286 - 386 time frame. Back in the olden days I constructed many computers using that type of memory.

i am going to use it in my projector. maybe a hand held. they fit really snug. btw, i lost my strdst silver host :yabbmad:

The connectors in the opening posts are pretty common. They are usually sold as rows of 50 or so, and you can snap off the required number of connectors.

Soldering the leads is you best bet but if you don't want to go the laserbug route you could solder a chip capacitor on the pins close the the diodes case and then stick it your socket that way if there is a disconnect with power applied the chip capacitor can MABY asorb the spike from the driver.

while the laser bug is cool. it wont fit in my heat sink. thanks for the all the replies guys.

I apologize for the brief response earlier. I was in a rush.

I posted the image of the laserbug to show the connector used on it. If I recall correctly, the thread I linked to mentions the exact part number. If it is not mentioned, 300EVIL might be able to point you in the right direction.
