It is sold to WackBag I can't be that greedy, I have 3 PL III (AKA Aries) lasers.  I can sell one, this one, in the picture taken with no smoke, is one I fixed from the LaserGlow "Cleaning Sale" .   I definitely admit that I was very lucky to fix it up.  I got the ones that were very low output, and when I removed the heat sink, I could simply push the module and make the dot get single and far brighter, even luckier, it held position afterward.   It has one other issue.  It doesn't respond to a key, always turns on if the dongle is in after the 2 second delay even with no key , and no key position turns it off.  I really don't mind as the other 4 safety systems work well, and a side key would make it more difficult to use in most mountings.  I can guess about the output, as my meter has been compared to those of other users, but this laser does vary in output, so I make a broad claim, it's doing about 60 mW to 135 mW and a picture is worth a lot of words IMHO!  I would let it go to a good home for $180 OBO shipped in ConUS, or about $10 less delivered locally.

Oh yeah and the Aries case is included too!

I have one of these babies completely gutted on my desk. I don't know what to do, I think its an issue with the crystal set as there is only IR output.

Scopeguy, got any advice?

Maybe you should play around with the alignment of the crystals? If all fails, you have the option of replacing them...

Take out all of the crystals then put a lens in front of the pump! [smiley=happy.gif]
And how many mW/W is the pump?

They are pretty small, they should be glued right in front of the laser diode.

Scopeguy20, I'm confused about your meter (Is your meter your eyeball :))? Also, why does the power fluctuate so much? What was the original power rating? Thanks!

Hey WackBag, my meter is a Kenom Thermal Laser Power Meter, but so far by comparison, it seems about 9% higher than other readings. The PL III is rated at 100 mW, but cold it is about 70 on my meter, and warmed up it reads over 140 mW

Re: F.S. PL III Portable Laser ~ 100 mW

You will never find two portables alike even when rated at the same output. The reason is simple. Have you ever seen a power stability rating on any portable laser advertised? If I am not mistaken you generally get about a 20% power stability which is why it is never advertised. Furthermore there is generally no output feedback control either via PD in the pump or thermal feedback. Essentially, portables are free running. As such they all behave differently. I've seen portables rated at the same output jump to 2.5 times their max output and slowly sink back to somewhere above their rating. I've seen them start low and climb as the temperature increases to a point above their rated output. They are incredibly variable. This leads to many methods of determining their true output. Of course less than scrupulous sellers will claim peak as the rating whereas reputable sellers will test at least the duty cycle to see startup characteristics and output at thermal stability. Most higher end power meters will provide either an average output reading along with the current reading and peak reading or a statistical rating of variability called deviation.
