I put my little gizmo together for the first time tonight, it needs some work still but it is getting there

Red needs better focus
motorboating of the amp needs sorting
greenie needs to flash, rather than draw lines

Sorry again for quality of movie but it gives an Idea of what it does.

Great stuff again Rog.. ;D. I also love how your work is so neat and professional looking . Your attention to detail is superb. Very well done.

Jase

I like it... ;D The beams are dancing nicely with the music.

Thanks Jase, still a way to go on it  yet.  When I get it sorted I will give more info on the speaker setup and so on.

Wow, it's just like going back in time to the LASERIUM shows with the Krypton 1W ion laser.

MUSIC:
That's "luckyman" by Emerson Lake & Palmer for you noobes to classic rock.

I was sleeping the 1st time I heard Luckyman and that was one dream I'll never forget.

Green pulsing:
Try switching a laser current bypass... with audio voltage into a schmidt trigger.

I once put a mirror on a speaker but you did better. ;)

Could you spoon feed me a circuit for that please Laserrod?

2nd try to post -- "too busy" :(
It looks like the mirror is glued over the coil. How big is the display and at what distance ??

Mirror not glued at all........ ;)

How big is the display and at what distance ??

The distance was 5 feet, size of display around 2 feet across. The amplifier motorboats if I turn it up and although the display gets big it does not pulse with the music, once I get that sorted I will update.

Rog,
I'm overloaded by supporting the idea I gave U but try this.

Put 6v on a 4093 (or a sub.) quad and tie all the inputs together to wiper of a 100K pot. ((ends to 6v)to adjust bias)then to a .1 poly cap. to a 100k pot. to the audio. Tie all the outputs to the OPTO to turn on the green LASER.

Forget the shunt idea for now. Look for me to post " pulsing a LD " latter.
Keep in mind if you rapidly switch a current on/off you get harmfull high voltage surges!
I can't be more specific because.....

But if you use common sense and are carefull, I think you're smart enough to get some good results . :)

Also look up ONE-SHOT circuits. That will turn quick pulses into long ones for LASER pulsing.

Moterboating sound like AMP impedence imbalance with motor coil. Try a Cap or as I....

Hope that inspired you. :)

Cheers, I'm toasting U now ;D

Mark me down as interested in a "pulsing your LD" tutorial.. but you sound busy so I will ask google 8-)

Thanks Laserrod, I have improved things a bit by balancing the the l/r outputs with a resistor on one side....I had a quick try with a cap on the output but didn't get anywhere with it.

I don't know if you have worked with DX greenies but they are very variable in the way they start up, sods law dictates that the one I modified for this is one that needs to warm up a bit before it gives any output, this sent me in circles for a while as I thought it wasn't working when I switched it on to try the mods. After around 2 or 3 minutes it is nice and bright....of course this length of time is dictated by the duty cycle being lower as it pulses with the music.....I will keep at it and thanks again for the help.

8811,

Is your face the LASER screen?

Or was that the Wizzard of Oz [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Can't wait for you to post a device layout discription.
