After much deliberation I decided to order my first greenie from Nova. Ordering a laser of this type from Nova was a no brainer based on all the great reviews and the support this company offers. I first heard of Nova when SenKat did his review of the X85 on CPF, and I was just as impressed with the case this laser comes with, as the laser itself...lol.

I really did want to get a Herc or Optotronics and I know they are both fine companies and one day I will. However aside from the fact my finances currently won't allow me to on account of I want to get a camera, (believe it or not I have never had a digital), I also decided I wanted to get the feel for a greenie before taking a very deep plunge.

In addition I have a SenTorch that I will be receiving, as well as the blu-ray diodes, and I am currently playing with my open can diode with TEC cooling and have the GB diodes which I will be installing in a couple of flashlights. So I will have plenty to keep me busy..lol

Anyway, I am totally looking forward to receiving the Nova.. :) I will let ya all know when I receive it.

It's about time to get a greenie for a member with over 1000 posts! My X105 came within 5 days of ordering it, and that was with the free shipping option so I hope you get it fast!

Cograts, Gazoo !!! I REALLY hope you remembered to use the discount code !!!!

Well I did put in the comments section this is my first greenie, I am from LPF, blah, blah.. ;D It probably doesn't matter. But we'll see.

SenKat, thanks..yes I did remember to use the code and it did work... :)

Styro,,,yeah buddy, I agree it is about time.. :P I am a red junkie... ;D I got a green for the awe factor, but I am sure I will have a lot of fun with it. I do plan to get some optics later on....BTW I had it shipped TNT..I should have it tomorrow 8-)

I just ordered my first greenie as well. I ordered my Alpha 105 on Thursday last week and it got delivered yesterday. Not bad as I am in the UK.

Just a shame I am away on business this week and won't have a chance to have a play until the weekend. :(

man that is fast shipping! i wish i had a couple of extra $$$ to spend on one of these great lasers, but without a job(LOL 13), no money for me(or not much anyway) ;D ;D

I don't have a very good camera but any pictures you have seen of this laser in action, or any other reviews, I fully agree with them.

I have had this laser only a little over a day, but I am still amazed by the beam brightness and the quality of this laser...it has a very good feel to it.

Some of you have asked me how well does it burn...I guess that's always the first question on everyones mind. Well when I first tried it with an older pair if NIMH batteries, it would not even light a sharpied safety match from a foot away. So I tried alkaline batteries. It did light the match but it took awhile.

All of this time I was thinking something isn't right. It should easily be able to light an unsharpied match... :'( I began to worry something might be wrong with it. But I was not panicking...I was thinking it just might be the way the beam is collimated. I really did not purchase it to burn, but rather to enjoy the beam, and later on get some more optics and things from Nova. So I was thinking it is under a 90 day warranty, and I will have my meter before then and would be able to test the output.

Well I had a set of AAA Eneloop batteries on the charger and as soon as they finished charging, I inserted them into the laser. BINGO.. ;D I can very easily light an unsharpied safety match from a foot away, and it lights instantly using these batteries. :) I have no idea if lithiums would do better as I understand the laser is well regulated...but I do intend to try them too.

It really is difficult to put into words how pleased I actually am with the Nova X105. My advice to anyone thinking of ordering it is definitely get the case, lightyears and Nova membership. It is only $20.00 more and you get 1045 LightYear reward points to get started with...this is the equivalent to a little more than $10.00 and can be used towards your next order, or you can start saving up LightYear reward points. With the Nova membership you get 15% off most of the things in their store like the optics for example. And to top all of this off, you will receive a free diffraction grating and it is very cool. The value of this alone is $27.00!

The case it comes with is a feature of the laser IMO. It is made of aluminum and the foam is already cut out to perfectly hold the laser, an extra set of batteries, some optics and the diffraction grating. The appearance of the case is very cool, the pictures you may have seen anywhere do not do it justice.

If you have any questions about this laser please reply to this thread and I will answer them if I can.

Congrats on the New Nova....

And you are right...even if there were no lightyears..that case is easily worth the 20 bucks!!

It really protects that laser!!!

I went to the local Ace hardware and bought a 1/2 inch rubber endcap to keep over the appature.
That should keep the lens clean over the long haul... and it cost a WHOPPING 39 cents!!

You might also want to pick up a nice 1/2 inch rubber O-Ring...so you can slide it onto the laser and use it to hold down the button while you do experiments..(more burning anyone...)

hehehe
