My family's ps3 broke (turns out the diode died), and my dad was asking me if people still sell ps3 lasers on laserpointerforums. I told him I'd check around.

I'm looking for the entire sled in good working condition, but if worse comes to worse I'm sure we could get the bare diode.
on ebay the average prices on the ps3 sleds are about $40.00, seems way overpriced being that a PHR is only a little over $10 now. At this price it would be better off to get ps3 slim for $150.

I have plenty of sleds where the diode is broken - i know, not too useful. However, I do have one sled which is new and perfect, a KES-400a, or 400aaa i believe, which I would sell, but didn't plan selling too cheap. Maybe you can find another, but if not, how does $30 shipped sound?

I'll ask my dad what he thinks about $30. I'll let him know that the ones on ebay are between $40 and $80.
I'll also confirm the exact sled I'll need. It's the oldest ps3 lol, we've had it for about 3 years now. I'll probably get back to you tomorrow (actually later in the day today)

Woops I just realized I posted this in the group buy section. Too bad there aren't any mods to move the thread for me lol..

PHR-803Ts are only cheap because they came from cannibalized HD-DVD drives, not from PS3 sleds. There is literally no manufacturing use for those PHR-803Ts anymore. So that $40 is a reasonable price for the PS3 sled, and about what we were paying before the glut of PHR-803Ts.

I also doubt you can refit a laser diode to one, because PS3 laser diodes are different than the others, with different power levels, pin-outs, current requirements, etc. Even if you could align it properly, it may not receive enough current to even lase.

I'd just bite the bullet and buy a new sled.

Yep, and I think $30 shipped from me for a new sled is reasonable :)

I used to buy from PSXBOY way back in the day so I checked out their website after reading this thread.

75$+Shipping for a complete BD module:
PS3 Complete BD Drive with laser KEM-400AAA - PS3 Parts - PSXBOY.COM -wholesale and retail welcome

56$+Shipping KES-410 (Brand New)
PS3 KES-410A Laser lens(Original Brand New) - PS3 Parts - PSXBOY.COM -wholesale and retail welcome

66$+shipping KES-400A
PS3 Laser Lens KES-400A - PS3 Parts - PSXBOY.COM -wholesale and retail welcome

etc.

So the 30$ for a working sled is quite a good deal.

The thing that I noticed in particular, is that there seems to be quite a few variation of the PS3 sled, have you checked how it all works out compatibility wise?

The PHR is considerably cheaper than the PS3 sled, but remember the diode in the PS3 sled is unlike any other, it has the red, ir and violet all contained in one 5.6mm can, not a simple feat!
