im looking for a 1.5W - 3W 445nm laser..

my problem is, ive found some clues in this forum that the FDA does not allow lasers with more than 5mW requires special regulations and stuff..

anyone selling those lasers with those locks and stuff needed by the FDA?
or i not need them?

im really new into this stuff so any guidance would be helpful, i checked the forum and couldnt figure out what you guys meant by drivers..
or different types of heatsinks and such...

whats the life expectancy of those lasers?

btw, how much do i expect to pay for those lasers?

Welcome to LPF! To buy a 1.5w to a 3w is a little tough. You can buy lasers that some of the members build that are 1.2w. and I see udanis beat me to it!

I recommend you order the goggles before the laser, that way you won't be tempted to play with it without.

Yeah, it is technically illegal to sell a > 5mW portable laser in the US without the 5-point FDA safety features, i.e. shutter, key lock, 3 second delay, operation indicator, and remote termination connector. I doubt if it's illegal to own one. You'll no doubt be able to buy one around here that lacks any or all of those safety features.

Yea, you wont see any 1watt 445nm on shelves at walmart :D. Personal deals within US are your safest bet, if you try to get one from somewhere else you run the risk of customs taking it (although most people are smart enough to label the package "flashlight".) But it seems like the best DIY lasers come from the US anyway so you are in good shape.

Buying lasers cross boarder isnt much of an issue between members here.
The majority of my sales are to the USA, and in almost 4 years, have not lost
a single laser to customs in either direction.

Most members do not mention the naughty word "laser" in the customs
forms ;)

I had to ship a laser to California 2 weeks ago, the guy at FedEX handed
me a form for the FDA when the words 'UV light' was mentioned. The
customer wanted 'express' shipping, and it got there in 2 days with
no problems. In the same week another went to the UK. It got there
in 3days also through FedEx with no issues. Its more of an issue
when buying from a established company who cant fudge the paperwork.

There seems to be more risk of losing a package when shipping through
private firms. Sending with Canada Post / USPS is the least risky.

You also should check with any seller you are dealing with if they
guarantee delivery. Some sellers wont send another unit. The good sellers
will
