Welcome to Laser Pointer Forums - discuss green laser pointers, blue laser pointers, and all types of lasers

Wow...this takes particle trapping to an insane level!

And they're doing it with the same old carbon particles that you can see being trapped here on the forum. Only they've perfected the ability to move 'em around REALLY FAST!

Works great as long as you don't sneeze.

Have to give the above guys credit for manipulation of the laser beam + particle---mini laser light show

The optical trapping technique is quite old:
"In 1970, Arthur Ashkin demonstrated that dielectric particles can be accelerated and trapped by radiation pressure . Sixteen years later he succeeded in trapping particles using a single, highly focused laser beam , a setup which was then called Optical Tweezer."

Styro did a video showing the optical trapping effect a while back see:

Optical trapping has been around for a while now. When they say it is "better" than a hologram, it needs clarification. The object wave created by a high quality hologram is indenticle to looking at the object itself. Displaying video on particles trapped in the air.....not so much.
