You're right, it's illegal to import a >5mw laser to the US unless it has some specific safety features. But I've heard that you can get the non-legal ones  through customs pretty easily, you just need to find a seller to ship it here.

And Black is right.
* buying a gun is ok.
* Firework's is leagle.
*Glass is common
---and the list goes on ----

But nope. no light. somone could get hurt.
Remember "Education" is the key.
(althou a key might be illleagle, only if you lock your doors.) >:(

[quote author=jayrob link=1235085079/0#0 date=1235085079]I couldn't resist the cheap price for this 'bottle laser' from FocalPrice:
http://www.focalprice.com/50mW_532nm_Powerful_Green_Laser_Pointer_Silver_LP078S_7165.html

I just received mine ( well, two actually... I accidentally double ordered :p ) and I'm very happy with them. They feel great in the hand. They are super heavy; I'm guessing chromed brass. One is much better than the other. It is a lot brighter, the beam is much more visible, and when I compare at the dots through protective spectacles the "bad" laser's dot is not as round as the "good" one's.

I can't wait to get my LaserBee repaired so that I can see what they are actually putting out.

ahh...some reason its fluted head looks a little more unobtrusive than the pics depict

I ordered a "300 mW" laser from them that doesn't even burn! Fucking rip-off!

So I settled for a 100 mW green laser from Optotronics. Go THERE for cheap lasers!

Just got mine today.. It's NICE! Feels great in the hand, nice and heavy. Solid build.

I haven't had much time with it.. just briefly turned it on. I don't have safety glasses, so I'm reluctant doing much with it.

I can tell from shining it on the wall that the beam is not very thin. I can set something up later tonight to see if it burns anything.

Divergence? I have no idea what is.... :)

One thing I'm wondering, is the dot that shows up on the wall or carpet damaging to my eyes by looking at it?

EDIT: I just had the laser shining on the palm of my hand (looking away) for about 20 seconds and it kinda started to feel a little warm, but not really... so it seems relatively low powered. Still, I'd like to know the safety implications of shining it on the wall, carpet, etc...

On carpet minimal light will be reflected into your eyes, so it would be ok to look at it there and play around with it.   And as for walls especially white colored walls just don't STARE at the wall for long periods of time but for a couple seconds wouldn't hurt.  At close range there will be more light reflected into your eyes so the farther away the dot the less likely it is to cause damage.

EDIT: SPELLING CONTENT

Piece of crap  >:(

So I filled a ticket  Hopfully they resolve it.   :'(

TacomanMcjab,

That sucks! Not only did they send you a much less powerful laser, but they swindled you out of about $8 as well. I wish you the best of luck getting them to fix their mistake.

I got that same style laser from DX last year. It's supposed to be 20mW but it seems much brighter. On a fresh battery(cr2) it even stings the skin a bit. I think it would make a great host for a blue-ray. When mine breaks thats what I'm going to do.
