It's fine Daedal,
and everybody else, thank you for all that advice about hooking the circuit up, but I didn't have a 33 Ohm resistor, all I had was one resistor and that pot! I even tested the circuit first with an LED to make sure it didn't fry immediately. from there, i would turn the pot up until it reached 37 or 38. little did I know it would jump like that...
I also don't have 4 LED's or a 100 Ohm resistor.
all that aside, I probably COULD have done some more tests, but I didn't have the money to do so, and I DID sheck the current before hooking the blu-ray up. But next time, I might spend the money just to go get a 100 Ohm resistor (or whatever I need) to do so.
and theres always that lesson learned that we aren't perfect and the diodes CAN fry...
