Well only as a side note, soldering directly on batteries is a bad idea, they could explode (and degrade rapidly at best), they are notoriously difficult to replace once empty, and they don't look too good :D

Second, plastic lens might melt, and while doing so shape a nice reflective inverted surface and reflect light back into your diode and kill it...

Third - AWSOME heatsink.

Nice blue laser you got there - if you can insure it proper power supply and aluminum box host, it'll make excellent labby!
 
Well I've been soldering direct to sub c NiCd and NiMh since about 1990 without any problems, it's actually quite common in the rc car racing arena. The key is to have a HOT 80-100 watt iron so you're not heating the battery up too much and getting the joint done quickly.

Plus with the fantastic charger technology and balanced battery dischargers the life and capacity of these cells is amazing . . .

Yup, its a common practice to build your own packs like that, sweet charger by the way
 
It is a great charger, no longer state of the art but does alot of things rather well and the thermocouple for active temp monitoring is a nice feature to have . . .

welp requested 850 ma from drlava but my test load data indicated 275 ma? Obviously borked my test load, it wasn't pretty . . .

so I'm not sure . . . ordered a LPM from Laserbee which should be here soon . . .

post pics of the side with the two five pin chips if you can. you should be able to verify the range the driver was set up for, and there is only one setup to get to 850ma.

no I have all that data and the drivers are configured properly, 412mA-1.5A . . .

plus it's covered in Arctic Alumina and a heat sink . . .

I must have fuxored my test load . . .
 
pretty simple and pretty awesome, It's exactly the height/depth of the AixiZ module (30 mm iirc) and it's the sink from an Intel core i7 920 1366 . . .

It fits totally flush but I didn't want to press it all the way in because it makes it hard to remove . . .

Since I watercooled my processor I had one laying around . . .

Very good!!! could you please give the dimension of the copper only the copper heatsink, lenght, diameter ?
 
That heatsink looks capable of efficiently cooling a cyclotron. Should keep your laser nice & cool !!! Just a BIT of overkill though, don't ya think ? J/K:na:
Actually, that's an AWESOME set-up for a "LABBY STYLE" laser. Nicely done &, as evidenced by the photos, WORKS GREAT !!!!!! :wave:
