WL section on Futureweapons is REDICULOUS

It may well be; but here's the real Mc Coy: ;)

www .laserdazzler.net

This is one scary MOFO, especially when you're a long haul driver and some $10/hr knucklehead, parked on a frontage road, fires one at your rig, while you're hauling 10,000 gal of LOX. :'(

The "Compact High Power" unit is 500mw @ 532nm, with an output aperture of 2.25 inches, variable focus, and flashes at some harmonic of the Schuman Resonant Frequency, which I believe to be 14.3Hz, which has been experimentally proven to disrupt the CNS of living organisms, especially when delivered by extremely bright light. It is visible in broad daylight at over 1600 yards, which I can empirically confirm; because the knucklehead who fired at me looked to be at least 1/2 mile away! The energy density is so high that the minimum standoff distance is 20 meters. That's about 1/2 Football field +10 yards!

The "Standard Laser Dazzler" is 200mw @ 532nm, and uses two beam expanders, with an output aperture of 3 inches, variable focus, and flashes at 14.3Hz as well! However, the energy density of this unit is low enough that it can be used at hand-to-hand combat ranges without causing permanent eye damage, or so they say!

Let me know what you think,

WL must try to sell their lasers they couldn't collimate correctly some how for a ridiculous price! :P

Spyrorocks, that picture is hilarious! ;D

I saw that video on their site months ago, kinda funny they actually put it on “Future Weapons”. What can you say or do though; unfortunately the Media is filled with manipulations and a bunch of depressing crap to herd the sheep. Don’t get me started with my philosophical beliefs! >:(

Oh, BTW here's a way to approximate the output of the "Compact High Power" Laser Dazzler:

Get a 200mw Laser Pointer from "Laser Glow." Then get a 10mm "Plano Concave" lens with a focal length of 10mm as well. Then get a 60mm "Achromatic Doublet" with a 100mm focal length. Then get a 110mm tube to hold your optics and find some way of mounting it to the shell. BTW, the Laser Glow pointers have an input for external modulation, which I'm sure you could intercept internally, just to keep things neat. For other company's units that don't have a dedicated modulation input a legitimate injection point would be the on-off switch. At least that's what I got out of my communications with Sam Wasserman (Sam's Laser FAQ). And, I'll bet the up-collimator trick can be used on one of those cheap DX Flashlight-Style Laser Pointers. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 10mm Plano mentioned earlier could simply be set in the aperture hole, which I believe is 10 or 11mm and then fastened with "Super Glue." Of course the head length is too short to get proper focus with the Doublet up front; but who knows, it may be possible to find a lens pair with very short focal lengths? It'll probably cone-out; but if you're nice and close, it may not matter! 8-)

In case you're wondering, I chose 200mw instead of 500mw intentionally; because at close range the energy density of a 500mw unit is tissue damaging. I also chose 60mm for the Doublet instead of 75 because, from my web searches, 60mm Doublets seem a lot easier to come by. Of course with the DX units, you're probably looking for a 28 or 30mm Doublet, which will naturally have a shorter focal length!

Wow, that must be an awsome burner if you bypass the flashing :D.Btw, I don't think 500mW of 532nm with a 2.25 inch diameter is exactly "tissue damaging" :P It should have less density than a regular 16X collimated DIY.

you know whats funny i was going to buy a skbolt 225 for900 bucks
it said it was better than a optotronics well me being pretty new never heard of optotronics until i searched it on my computer and found out techlasers were a copy of optotronics and optotronics was the real deal so i got in touch with jack got the rpl260 if it wasn't for techlasers comparing themselves to jacks rpl units i would have bought that shitty copy from them JACK RULES*********

loooooool

just watched it
and totally agree

the "terrorist" would have shot its hostage in no time
and i can assure you he wouldnt fall on his back onto the floor like if he was hit by a truck

also....wtf, he was the test subject for a laser-in-eye session? i would've sued the "shooter's" ass!!

If you can blind an enemy for 1-2 sec. its all the time you need to be the one who shots first. I dont think this laser is a primary weapon.

There is absolutely no way a laser will hit a target/mark at 100 miles. The earths curvature only allows the vision or any light source to travel less than 6 kilometers (tan) before touching the ground at sea level (max vision zone), unless they tried using a mark in space (which I highly doubt). Use the Pythagoras theorem using the earths radius of 6371 km

I bet that the show was made before WL made their Photonic Disruptor series and then they just called it that because the brand was not trade marked so everything they did was legal and they ended up fooling thousands of people by puting that video on their site. Or they just saw the show and then made a quick google search to find out that the REAL company that made that did not trade mark it so they copied the name and they for some "magical" reason have a video about the real Photonic Disruptor on their site.

Their just fooling people in a legal way, and theirs no way it can pop balloons like vids on youtube show and not offer permanent damage, especialy @ 100mW of power.

And their are better tools to do this, like throwing a flashbang grenade or just that 200 Lumens tactical surefire flashlight fixed under the barrel of the gun would easily have the same effect or maybe better because their expanding the beam anyway (In the first test yes but not so sure in the actualy "Hostage Situation" and if they did not then how do you aim an almost pin head sized dot in sombodys eyes when your rushing throught doors and hes got a gun)

This is the way I see it.

If your holding sombody hostage and your a threat then the only direct energy your going to get from a weapon is the impact of those 5.56mm bullets coming out of my M4 that I pointed at your head when I stormed into the room.

So you're saying that we can only see 6 km away? :P

xJumper you're probably right.A flashlight would be better because the laser is meant to be used in closed quarters anyway so there's no need for the beam , whether it's the flashlight or the laser, to go any more than a few meters. But it can pop balloons while not doing permanent damage because they're adjusting the divergence to a huge 6-7mRad so the dot is a big blob with low energy density while it hits the eye.

i laughed hard when I saw that episode, O noes he haz lazer in my eye, i guess i'l just stand there
