Hey, just a little advise needed for my phr805 laser project, i think i have it planned, but just need a little info on whether it will or not, okay so here we go, i already have 2 diodes, a bluray from my old ps3, and a phr-805t, gunna use the phr since i now realise that the ps3 diode pretty much sucks, i am also wanting to get a Ehgemus host(the best host i ever seen!!!:: http://laserpointerforums.com/members/ehgemus/albums/custom-host/1903-aixiz-module-2-cr123-1-18650/ )and the protected 18650 battery, and a flexdrive v5 at 130mA and some nice solid core wire, also will this wiring diagram work for this setup?

I think that the lead that is labeled "not used", is not used. :D That green wire is supposed to be hooked up to the neg on the power source (or the case).
 
The PHR 805 is case negative to begin with. You can omit the green wire completely and it will work.

Only with a flex though, don't try that with a microboost ;)
 
it will work because the LD- and Battery - are connected inside the driver, continuous if you will.

Drop the green sucker off and start lasing! :)

thanks for all the help guys! so hard to get ur first build started...
so to to round it up, will this work? ( i know the green wire to the 'not used' pin is acctually used and is to get the negative current from the battery through the host and into the diode case and through the green wire , into the driver)

i didnt ignore it, i was just making sure that what u ment was that the diagram was correct, its just for my first real build i dont want to wire it up wrong and end up frying the whole thing... thanks :)
 
I never said the diagram was correct, in fact I said just about the opposite. The diagram is wrong. If you are not going to search to find this stuff on your own the least you can do is listen when someone tells you everything you need to know.

Leave the green wire out, you do not need it. That is the only change that needs to be made. If you want to know why re-read the two posts Fiddy and I made above.

Okay, I just wasnt sure whether u guys ment take off the green wire or what, sorry pontiac, next time ill try listen to wat u said mire careful, hopefully its gunna work well,:)

Avoid solid core wire (mentioned in first post). Wires used in laser projects and similar need to be flexibile, multistrand wires are best.

Few members here even sell special silicon-insulated 64-strand wire which is the best stuff I've seen to use in our projects.
 
Okay, so, take the green wire of, its not needed, and use some silicon insulated wire (already have some 50 strand ,I think , from making a light set for my rc car) and it should work, also just got dome very nice heatshrink, and a heatsink for my flexdrive that I made from a chunk of copper.

Hopefully one of you fine people can help me out. I'm making basically the same build right now (first build *bow*) but I'm not using a flex driver. I'm using a groove v2 driver and 2 O' thems 3.7v AAA sized batteries. I don't really know much about the differences of different types of drivers so I'm wondering if the exact same wiring would apply to my phr and groove build. Is the case pin already connected via the driver to the - in for the battery on the driver? Is the "un-used pin" legitimately un-used and I can just trim it?

Like Dave I don't want to mess up my first build just because I don't understand the wiring completely...

Also just to clarify my own mental confusion: case negative means the positive side of the batteries is connected through the driver and diode and the negative is fed through the host to the diode casing?

p.s. I found this thread while searching for graphics to use to make my own diagram like the one you posted but clearly I don't need to :P

Yeah, pretty much.

Same wiring goes. About unused pin, technically it's not used to conduct anything through the diode itself, but practically it's used to obtain the connection to the host (case, and through it, the negative side of the battery).

And yeah, "case negative" means negative polarity of the battery is connected to the case, or host if you will.

I think whats confusing me is this: How exactly does the current transfer from the case to the V- in on the driver. Or does it not have to?? I see in the wiring circuit shown above (and you guys saying the green wire is unnecessary) nothing is connected to the V- spot on the driver. Does that mean that the negative pin for the diode is connected to the host as well and transmits the negative current from the battery to the driver through the D - port?
