Will charger work fine with lower A and V output?

Hey, again again ;)
I bought this charger from DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.936 but realised that it was with american plug. I live in europe, so that doesnt work well :(

On the converter it says:
AC: 110V-240V
50-60Hz
DC:5.5V/450mA

I got an old cellphone charger, and i think it can be used:
AC: 100V-240V
50-60Hz
65mA
DC 5V / 350mA

The cellphone charger has a bit lower values, but does it matter? I just guess that the batteries will take longer charging..

Would therebe any problems if doing this?

as long as the voltage isnt above 240 there just buy a us to eu adapter... ;)

I know i know, but if this works, i don't have to wait for dx to ship..
I've been in some local stores, but noone have them .. :(

I'm not sure what european standards may be, but many wall worts here in the US are voltage regulated only...meaning you can tap more current out of them over what they are rated, I like to keep it within 5-10% of rated value though...as typically thats how passive components are rated. Testing them started as an issue for me being that the rated voltage output only occurs at closed circuit. Measuring them at OCV, which I did a 4.3V adapter threw me a wild value like 9V

I think it might work, but no bets on the longevity of the charger though. Some will work fine for several months, then crap out [like my combination of a Nokia charger to fit my DSD 17670/14500 charge bay] but others will black flag in short time.

Good luck ;)

Hi jonasa0610,

I think your phone charger will work. After looking into Li-ion batteries, the important thing regards charging them is NOT to over-charge or charge them at a rate that is above C. Ie, if your batteries are 3.6V, 600mAh. Only charge them at 3.6V at 600mA for 1 hour. Don't go charging them a 3.6V at 1200mA for half and hour and think you'll get away with it; they might go bang!

Another problem you might want to consider is that the charger you have bought will cut the charge at 4.16V but your mobile phone charger may not do this. I have been using mobile phone batteries in my builds and have encountered different charging characteristics from different manufacturers even though the ratings on the chargers are the same! :-? Personally I think you'll be fine using the phone charger but don't leave it unattended!!! :D

I hope that makes sense, (not too sure, having read it back myself!), but for more info try this link: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/

Hope that helps.

M :)

Okay, well, i've already ordered the converter from DX, but i have a simple question.

Will the charger stop on it's own when the battery is full? (3.6V Li-ion)

Re: Will charger work fine with lower A and V outp

that would depending on what value the charger is set on to terminate charging...some may say it'll stop at 4.2V but I've had one ultrafire charger that walloped a 10440 by overcharging it to 4.5V from float charge.
