Why test load... Is it necessary?

I think some of you guys missed the point...

Just because experienced builders can shy away from
using a Laser Diode Test Load is not what I would suggest
to a noob that needs to ask the question...

Obviously he is not an experienced builder. By stating to
use a test load he will reduce the likelihood of damaging
his LDs and not hate this expensive hobby in the long run...

I totally get your point, BUT... I discovered that linears do not require a test load when I was a noob building my first phr in a radio shack project box. As expensive as this hobby is, it can be equally as cheap. For every diode I burned, I learned a lot.

On another note, if the OP would have followed jerrys advice in post 2, then we wouldn't even need this discussion at all:whistle:
