Why do Dogs & Cats hate each other?

I love Fluffy!!!

He was my avatar in MSN groups for awhile.

Peace,
dave

;D either that cat is strangely ferocious or the dog was just a coward .

You gotta love fluffy though xD

[quote author=nikokapo link=1214665144/0#9 date=1214685085]So in theory, an enormous cat would eat a chihuahua?

It doesn't have to be ginormous.  It just has to be large enough, fast enough, and hungry enough to be able to kill your chihuahua.  Hawks around here take people's pets home for lunch all the time.  Sometimes they just snack on them in the yard. <shudder>

Remember, animals do not have the same emotions or view of the world as we do.  They DO have emotions, but not the same.  To a hungry predator, meat is meat.  It doesn't matter to a hungry predator if the meat's "name" is Fluffy or not.

Hawks? WHERE DO YOU LIVE? that's so awesome! (not for the pets, but wth)

Reading above, animals dont always chase other animals for food. I have seen cats chace mice and birds just for the fun countless time... Every time the cat catches whatever it may be chasing, it lets it go again. Only once have I ever seen a cat actually eat what it caught.

That's just because they are domesticated (pets) and therefore well fed. They aren't "hungry" but they are still unable to resist their instinct to hunt for food.

The only animals that appear to kill for "fun" are humans, wolverines, and dolphins.

I have a cat, and a dog. If a cat is raised together with a dog from the start, it will look upon the dog as it's brother, and vice-versa. But if the cat is raised alone, it won't be happy to see a dog. My cat would taunt my dog, swat at her even cut her nose with her claw! My pit bull would just get sad and look at me like, "why? I just want to love her!" The reason I believe is because of their opposing characteristics, their natural differences. Cats are independent, give and accept affection only when they feel like it. They are loyal, and only feel comfortable opening up to people (and animals) they know. They are in control and place boundaries of how much they will open up to their acquaintances as well. Cats are usually more hostile by instinct toward new faces, even other cats. My cat eventually learned that my dog was not a threat, but still didn't want the dog licking her, so she would lay a foot away no problem, and my timid pit would make it clear that she meant no harm, by turning her head, and avoiding eye contact, trying to let the cat accept her. The cat would move in for a sniff, but that's as far as her curiosity went. Then she would just walk away. Keep in mind, that both of these animals are domestic, and given humanly love, so that’s their common ground. If you take a wild dog and a wild cat, then naturally they won’t be friends, but then you won’t see a dog hide in a tree either. Cats are similar to humans because they have huge egos, they think their shit doesn’t stink. They walk around thinking they are gods. That their company is your privilege. Dogs don’t care if their shit stinks or not, and are just happy to be alive. They are filled with energy to please and to love. Your company is their privilege.

I do not believe that their differences are created from food, or hunting. And although they have many similar instincts, they have many opposing.

Cats are solitary creatures that only allow non-threatening entities in their territory. Dogs are a pack animal

Here's my little experience. I have no idea how this is 'science of lasers' but eh.

I have three dogs, and one cat. Two of my dogs are properly-sized, one is a chihuahua (wasn't my idea to buy it -_-)

anyway, so the big dogs like to give my cat big slurpy doggy kisses, and the cat just sits there and takes it.

however, if the chihuahua tries that shit he is met with a swift clawless paw across the face, ahahaha XD

But my cat is extremely laid-back and likes to sleep and eat.

here's a picture of a similar cat.

Haha i wanted it to be here...it's science for me :P

So the cat takes it from the big dog and not from the little p***y chihuahua :).

32 rep? you're too close to c0ld's rep!

PS: thank Chuck it wasnt your idea to buy that dog or i'd have to get you killed.

Lol, yeah, he's fine as far as chihuahuas go... he learned at a very early age not to bark at night or at insignificant things. He doesn't scratch, bite, or freak out unless you pick him up when he's sleeping (hell, I'd attack you if I was a chihuahua and you interrupted my sleepin') so yeah, he's ok. Still a pussy dog though.

Here's a similar chihuahua. My one isn't as fuzzy as this.

Exactly.

Black haired ones look as if they were even smaller :(
