I bought one too... its on its way to me as we speak. What was the power rating with the front piece on? I would estimate ~20mw?

Mine was rock stable at 10-11mW with it on, and without, after a warm up its very stable at 41mW give or take 3mW :beer: best peak thus far is still 59mW :)
You're gunna love it bob, such a cool laser for a GREAT price!

@Pontiac: these have no focus in them, if what I've been told is correct they output right from the crystals :shhh:

Haha, yes it is! I love that thing, works well :) I wont be leaving it like that though, I am going to take the driver and mount it properly in a nice box sooner or later :san: take it easy Jerry, have a good one!

These are great lasers. I picked one up a few months ago. I would like to make two suggestions for those of you getting one. The first is wrap some electrical tape around the switch. There's a slightly exposed contact that can bite you (ask jakeGT). The second is the green and yellow striped wired should be joined together. They form the ground from the 110VAC PSU to your wall outlet. Normally they'd be connected to the original chassis somewhere grounding it and completing the connection.

I wouldn't tell them to join the wires!!!!!!!! The wire colors DO change and vary in these! I blew up one of my PSUs already, and it arced with plasma or something that was bright enough to sear my desk... be VERY careful!

Huh? I think you're confusing some of the other wires that are there because the ones I'm talking about are the ground wires. If joining them caused that then there was something seriously wrong with that power supply. Bare copper, green, or green/yellow are always ground in AC wiring in probably 90% of the world.

Do you have any idea where that lens was from? Possibly from an A-140 projector?

I've been trying to improve my divergence on my dpss as well. :)

It wasn't from a projector, I got it out of an optics grab bag some years ago. I have been searching for them again :cryyy:.

No. I meant exactly what I said, some of them are different. The switches are also different.

And mine doesn't have the ground on it, the blown PSU does, however.

I used an aixiz front, a beam expander out of a broken green glued in the diode socket, then a stock acrylic lens and got the divergence on mine down to 1.2mRad.. and all this fit inside the head. I also am using the optical feedback and after powersupply tweaks, it runs rock solid at 30mW so long as the head is sitting on a heatsink.

I will warn people though about running them without the optical feedback.. I've had two of these fry the facets on the pumps because of it. The auction states these are 1W+ pumps but I think they're really only around 500mW or so.

My point is.. I have evidence that they degrade quite quickly when run without the optical feedback.

And these heads are also IR filtered, so IR is of no concern.

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha, no.

I can personally say that these are >2.5W pumps at /LEAST/ ...

And mine is very very stable after warm up (CNI says 15 min) It doesn't shift but a mW or two for >30 mins, no extra heat sink or anything. Also, no driver tweaks on it.

Dude you can argue with me all you want, but I have TWO of these things that now only put out around 100-150mW of 808nm driving them at 2A that were working fine before running them without optical feedback for an extended length of time. I can see one being a fluke, but not two, plus there's at least one other member here I know who's had an extreme drop in maximum attainable output after running for awhile without feedback.

So lets see the statistics.. Out of 3 of these I have.. The one that's always run with optical feedback is still alive.. And the two that i've run without it have both suffered extreme power degradation due to what i've tracked down as optical damage on the pump facets. (Viewed on a white sheet of paper in the dark you can even SEE the horrible output of them.. Looks pretty much identical to the 445 diode I have that only does 200mW @ 1A.)

There's also the logic of matter. This is still a manufactured product. 2.5W pumps would be extremely overkill to get the rated 10mW output.. and therefor a waste of money.. I know of no business that stays in business long, that wastes money when they don't have to.

They *might* be 1W pumps.. maybe.. but more than that doesn't make sense from a cost vs requirement standpoint.

And I still say it's only a matter of time before other people who run them without feedback end up with 1 or 2mW 473's.. if they continue to lase at all.
