Well, here you have it. Just like the title says, I bought one of those <10mW bad 473nm labbies to see 473 figuring it was my only chance and look what I scored for $35.

and last but not least a video! Watch this and enjoy.

And now, I've exaggerated the driver cooling IN THE EXTREME! :eg::evil:

Thas a 4hp 4200 RPM blower motor, and this actually does work! Gains me a few mW as well as makes the driver happy :)

And this lens I randomly found actually fixed my divergence! Just one lens! We're at about 1.6mRad now :D

That's an awesome deal you scored! How's the beam profile?

One word. Niiccee...

Yeah, nearly all those "bad" 473nm lasers just have mode problems. So if you don't mind two blobs of light, they're still nice lasers. Hell, they're quite nice just for the case, the mounts, the peltiers, the power supplies, the heatsinks, the lenses, the prisms, etc.

I got mine pushing 50mw now...
does your every now and then bounce
a few mw every now and then?
Thanks

I'm chillin at 47mW with a peak of 59mW, STOCK. I haven't done anything other than remove the front piece. LOVE this little laser!!!

Re: Who would have imagined... BURNING 473 for $45.

Well, someone's gotta ask...

How much of that is IR? :na:

Ya its my baby too now lol... :)
I didnt cut the front piece off either,
just taped it up top like you have yours :)
dont you just love that color???

Dunno, testing that now.

EDIT: well, no IR to be found (or seen) sir, it dropped about 2mW due to the actual glass, but no IR. What can you expect though, they /are/ CNI heads.

I bought one too... its on its way to me as we speak. What was the power rating with the front piece on? I would estimate ~20mw?

Re: Who would have imagined... BURNING 473 for $45.

mine was 6-10mw but very stable, without head 45-50mw kinda jumpy needs cooling.. will to me it gets a little warm without head.

Re: Who would have imagined... BURNING 473 for $45.

I believe they are rated for 10mW with the front head on, the one I have is 100 times more stable with that feedback ring in place, but a lot stronger with it off.
The output on mine is horrible though, it hops modes on startup but does settle out nicely with the feedback sensor on or off. The divergence is terrible though, something like a 1" dot at 10 feet. If I took the time to mess with it I'm sure I could fix it though, in fact I remember someone posting a little how to for fixing the focus on these things.

I've been meaning to do something about the power supply too, I balance mine on random stuff like that too.

Mine will pop balloons, no matches though :shhh:

ya it burns the figure at about an ince from front. But using my as a part of my lumia
setup works great.
