How do I determine the +ve and -ve legs on my laser diode?

Your assumption was a bit risky. I didn't mean c-mount or TO-3. Standard TO-18 diodes also has different pinouts. For example, diodes from pointers (also easily available for beginners and as common as these from optical drives I think) - they usually have anode on the casing.Yeah, i assumed thats what kind of diode he would have, he seems alittle new to be messing with things like c-mounts and TO-3's
