What's the highest mA you've set your BDR 209?

I had one run happily at 600, then at 700. No problems yet.(only a 30mw increase) I have a couple spare diodes, as they weren't overly expensive, and they are fun little burners.
Thanks

Hi,,D..
I set mine to around 650 to 670ma for safe keeping, Want then to stay a while. At 3.8mm dia. these little guys can't take much for long periods of time. Know with the 405nm 1W is the quest for the holy grail but i'll be a little more humble with 9+ W's for now or lower.

Rich:)

Don't remember but I've got at least 2 of them putting out 800mW+ and then a few other that are still class 4.

Thanks Rich. You are right and made me laugh.," The holy grail." I think a lot of lives were spent looking for the "real" one. I know how those knights must of felt. " But we're so close " LOL

Jeepers, 850mA sounds hot. I dont own a 16x but I know the 405s don't tolerate being Pushed.
I'm waiting for the next one :D

With the market not demanding them I think we might be waiting forever for 405's as tough as 445's :/ I'm more hoping for <405nm diodes to hit hobbyist prices.

you can get 2000mw+ out of a 405nm diode but prepare to fork out $200 or more.... and it become an extreme fire hazard more dangerous than 5 watts of 450nm.... and expect the divergence of a m140....

source? I'd fork over $200 for a 2W 405 diode, even multimode, pretty fast. m140 characteristics are much better than the crazy powerful 9mm diodes, I'd accept those characteristics for 2W of 405nm, and I know I'm not the only one. if it existed for that price, I imagine DTR would have them or be trying to get them

and why would the fire hazard be worse, esp with multimode beam?

all surface even white like to absorb lower wavelength(405nm)....even a 2000mw of m140 put burns mark on the wall and easily ignite paper... and think what 2000mw+ of 405nm capable of...

Edit: i'll try to dig that up for ya.....

Edit 2: The seller say they'll look around as those are from prototype equipment.....likely a N!chia diode.....No guarantee though.

in my experience 405 doesnt burn white things any better than 445, it's just that these single mode 405s we have have such high energy density that they make good burners and distance burners. if it was a multimode diode, I wouldnt expect it to burn any better than it's 445nm counterpart

I know higher frequency radiation does carry more energy, but we arent talking a huge leap here like from visible light to ionizing radiation, so if there is a difference, I think it would be marginal

Oh. My. GOD. Just blew my fourth one, set at the lowest current yet, .5A, and it goes LED in record time. Excuse me, I'm going to go blow my brains out

I have to be the unluckiest guy here, maybe I should cut my losses and leave the hobby

those Blu-rays are a pain to deal with... they tend to live if the driver have soft start/ramp up features....

Shakenawake we should start a thread about diodes that died on the Bench. Ahh the frustration.
Last month I killed a 3.5W 445. I attribute this to operator error.
