What type should I use

Im building a driver for my laser and in the specs I have it calls for a 10mfd 16v eletrolytic cap but I was wondering could I use a Tantalum cap that has the same specs? Or maybe a 10mfd 35v cap? Just trying not to burn my LD up thanks.

That'll work fine. In the DDL drivers I've built (which is the type I'm assuming you're using) I have used different values. I always go higher than 10uf if I don't have that value.
With ~15 drivers, I've had no problems, so I'm assuming you'll be fine.

You will have no problem using that capacitor
It is actually even better because if you somehow put 20V through it it won't explode
