what laser is better at burning?

Do you have specific diodes in mind or are you asking about wavelength absorption?
If you are talking about a 638nm Mitsu P73 vs a 445 M140 diode both doing 1W they will both burn but the M140 will do better based on the better beam specs. The 12X 405nm diodes will be better than both of them for the same reason even with an output much lower than 1W. Also the further the distance away you try to burn something the wider the gap between their abilities to burn will get.
