What kind of glue is that white material, that is often used to keep the laser diode sit into a handle, and even to keep lenses aligned on the hole where the laser beam is released?

Sure is something that can stand high temperature..

that one looks like thermal grease.. mostly used for CPU, for its thermal spreading capability... i think for laser or more a duty of thermal resistance than thermal diffusion.

No, it's thermal transfer silicone glue (same appearence of thermal grease when it's fluid, but then it hardens as glue)
