infinity. Or do you mean the max voltage until the diode blows? ;)

;D Good answer. I don't like to think in terms of voltage with LD's. Only current... :p

Depends on the diode. Each will be different even if they're from the same batch. The spec sheet should list a typical, max, and min voltage.

Depends on the temperature too... and you'll get higher current for a given voltage as temperature goes up, sort of guaranteeing a blow out if the voltage supply is solid. Only the fact that batteries have internal resistance saves those minimag lasers ;)

say i put six 1N4001 diode on a circuit with a 9v wont it be suiteable for the LD since the drop of voltage?

Toked --

As said here many times -- Forget the voltage and monitor the CURRENT.
6 diodes would give about 4 volts drop.

Just go build the LM317 circuit. It'll cost around 10 USD and WILL save your diode from an early grave. It's an EASY build, the circuit is small enough to fit in many flashlights, only real downside is it needs about 6 Volts to run... But 2 CR123As will run it for quite some time.

i know about the current but i want to use 9v batts cause there cheaper

Well no that is not true. The 9 volt battery might run the diode for a few minutes if you are lucky. So buying bigger batteries, and more of them, will be much cheaper in the long run.

If your LD were a cat, 9V would end all 9 of its lives and then some.[/quote]

;D ;D
