What in the world is on this 532nm module?

Hey, everybody! I normally don't have to ask about something like this because one can usually just use the search and find the answers wanted.

My strange find made me think of Borg for some strange reason... lol
haha

Uhhm. Okay.
Anyway, a friend of mine dropped off his cheapo ebay greenie he got some time ago after asking me to bring it back to a useable state. The threads are nonexistent( dont ask me how idk lol) and the button no longer works.

So in order to resolve these issues I'm going to bypass the broken power button, then ill have extract the existing module and place it into a new host that is ready with a tail clicky...etc

So I gutted the pen host and found what is in the pictures below. Sorry that #3 and #4 are so large.

So I once long ago or it seems read a thread where someone had found this same kind of added wire "set up" I guess you could call it and I think they mentioned that they cut one of the wires and it became so bright it was visible in a lit room... Supposedly :wtf:
I dont remember any mention or pictures of the filter thingy that can been seen at #2, nor have I ever personally seen anything like it. I was told that the laser is suppose to have an output of 20mW give or take 10mw.

So if anybody can help me out figuring out why there are added components and what their functions are it will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I would guess it is a photodiode to regulate the output of the laser. I was thinking it could be a tiny TEC to regulate the temp of the nonlinear crystals, but it wouldn't be exposed like that and probably not found in a cheap old green pointer.

I have seen one like this before. I would have to agree with Sigurthr on the photodiode for driver regulation.

Okay so I dont know if this detail will do much but on the back of the diode mount it is engraved "newwishlaser.com" and the "NEW WISH LASER" in very fine print.

What would would it the chances be of damaging the laser beyond repair if i remove the blue colored filter and the photodiode? or what would happen if i just unsolder one of the photodiode's contacts from the driver?

The "blue colored filter" is the IR filter. Leave that in place if you can or at least put it back later. If you remove the photodiode or cut one of the leads, the driver will presumably output more current. This could at best increase power output. At worst, it could cause instability or even kill the pump.

I unsoldered it but there was no change

Does the photodiode take measurements by the light passing infront of it or does the light need to be reflectedd off of the ir filter?

A small portion of the output beam is reflected onto it. By what exactly? Not sure - it depends on the design. You'd have to take it apart and see.

I'm out running errands atm but when I return home I'll take some good macro close ups.

Looks like the IR filter is angled to reflect some light into the photo diode.
What was the original cost / power of this module?
