What do you use your laser for?

I get the impression that it's or sitting pretty on the desk or something.

Does anyone use theres for more practical applicatons like on a moving part, in the vehicle beaming the sky or for self defense etc?

i use mine for plane and helicopter spotting! if i see one i point it at it so all my cool friends can see where the aircraft is at! ;D ;)

i use mine for entertainment!
i have a projector and also i just use mine to further my knowledge on lasers and scanners.

i like to try new things and figure out what works and how to make it work better!

mostly self enjoyment!

Practical enough?

I use mine to help keep myself out of the bars at night.  I use them to keep my mind working and entertained.  I use mine to see just how many colors there are in a cyan beam and how many times I can get the colors to cross.  I use them to draw pretty pictures on the wall.  I use them to entertain my grandchildren.

Practical applications?

Remember, it's a hobby, not a job.  If it was your job, you probably wouldn't enjoy it as much.  There are some who do, (frothychimp comes to mind), but most people don't like doing their jobs as a hobby.

Peace,
dave

I like to use my lasers as toothpicks and back scratchers. They also make wonderful paper weights.

I pop balloons at parties, then look like i know nothing! ::)

But I also work with large UV lasers for a living. so its kind of cool to show it to customers, they think it really neat!

I also pop balloons at parties and then explain that my laser's ripped from an Xbox 360. People's jaws drop. xD

Well said.

Village, is the Xbox 360 diode actually powerful enough to do that?
I was under the impression they are sub 100mW so aren't really packin' heat?

The XBOX 360 HD DVD Add-On player was one of the original sources for the PHR-803T sleds.

Yes it was major overkill in the player, but that didn't seem to bother us. ;)

Ever stare at a fire?

Well I stare at the dot. :o

I use it to burn unknowing victims so they get startled or think they're being bit from some crazy insect. ;D

I like to build them because its fun.
I like to see the beam.
I like to play with my cats and dog (lower powered).
I like to star point.
I like to use my spirograph because it makes cool shapes.
I like coherent light.
I like lasers mainly for their colorful ambient light.

Ever been bitten by a spider? Down here on the underside of the earth, our spiders are so big they have health bars (can't be bothered to post the pic). I was on school camp and we were hiking through the bush, when I get this sensation like a thorn is in my sock. Then utter intense burning pain! I look down and there's a bloody great hairy thing biting THROUGH MY SOCK! >.< Swelled up like crazy. I flicked it away but my supervising camp dude caught it to make sure it wasn't a funnel web.
