What do you think about this as a host?

I have had this thing in my closet for years. It's an old EL blade light saber from a now long since gone company called LightTech Industries. It's a bit big, but it is pretty cool looking and would make a cool laser if it would work. I'm thinking seriously about trying to build a 445 in this thing. It is made from aluminium, the main body is a sinlge piece. The rubber grips are deteriorated, but they are just common rubber o-rings found at any auto parts store so easily replaceable.

It is long, but the end cap comes off(it held a sound module and motion sensor that sounded like a movie light saber). It is actually not a bad size with the sound module off, and the end cap will fit on the host minus the sound module. The main body/host is one piece of hollow aluminium. The Arctic is there for size reference.

I am a long way away from turning this thing into a working laser, but how cool would it look! I would have to send it off to one the boards' machinists to fabricate the parts and modify the endcap and host. Basically it looks like a good starting point for someone who has the skills. I would like to send it off and have it converted for a build, and maybe I could take it from there. I disassembled it so it might offer some more insight as to what it would take to convert it to a feasible host.

So what do you think?

Very realistic looking, appears to be well made. And yes it's a little on the big side, but I think it would make a great host. I like it:)

Wow that's a really nice looking lightsaber you got there.

Being so huge, I think what would work best visually would be if it had a BIG beam to match
it's size. Like a 400mW green + a BIG beam expander.

Definitely an involved and uncheap project, but the outcome would be epic.

Hmmmm, never thought about using a beam expander, and since this thing would just be for show, green might be the best color to use for it.

Oh hells yes! If that thing is aluminum, as it looks to be, should be able to dissipate a few watts of heat:lasergun:. Of course you would need to get a fx board to truly trick it out.
