this is true-
My last name is uncommon- as long as i can rememberon on our family on trips when a phone book was handy have looked for others with our last name- VERY VERY few were ever found- we called some and asked if we might be related but never made any link

My dad came from a big family but he was the only son there were 6 girls.

ALSO we think on my dad's side,.... his grandfather may have changed one letter in the last name--when they immigrated - that was a common thing- and IMHO a shame--

SO here is the wierd part

My brother (Richard-) has been on FBook since it started- he links his web site so many can read all about him- last fall Richard got a friend request from another FB 'Richard' AND he has our same last name!!!

so they 'friended' last month Richard got a birthday greet from the 'other' richard- turned out my brother has the same month and day--DOB - what are the odds ??

I do think however we all have had experience like this or maybe even more 'against the odds'

Post yours here- if you like but PLEASE no BSers--

I hope your brother and his new-found doppelganger don't try to see if they have similar SSNs or bank account numbers :p

Hmmm you make a great point- he is no dummy BUT is very friendly to all and has met a LOT of people in his biz(he is 65)- I will HOWEVER let him know to be careful-

ty +5 for that.

I had another thing that happened to me but will save it for another day.

When I was in the Coast Guard stationed in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, one of their ice breakers moored at our dock and I met a man who was also a radioman in the CG who had the same birth day and year as me, born in the same city and hospital about 15 minutes apart.

YEAH- I passed that along to Rick and he had a good laugh- he did his homework first and 'vetted' the other Richard as much as he could- the guy has had that name a long time-- & my bro is no fool..

DANG-- did you hear the sound of a "thermin' playing??

I DID once at work-

offshore 140 miles- on a drill ship where i did my internship under a well known chef-

Off shore food has a big rep - Shell Oil wanted 4 star or better-grits
so as there was a second galley not being used SONAT hired a pastry chef/baker- to make our bread- rolls and desserts

the new chef 'Bob' made incredible 'pecan crispies' I told him they were very close to the ones I got as a small child when I behaved while Mom shopped- we would stop a 'johnnies bake shop' in canton Ohio-- Chef Bob asked what years ?

- and then told me the reason his looked a lot like those from my childhood was becasue he worked at 'johnnies' during those years-- so they were EXACTLY the same-

small world--

LOL, Canton, Ohio.... been there many times, I'm from Wadsworth, Ohio.

No WAY!!

after Ohio winters I do not know why you went NORTH-

After Grad from Kent State in 1970 I beatfeet to the warm sands of Florida Gulf Side- Naples- Ft Meyers- worked at a zoo in between ( Bonita Springs) came to Tx on a Shrimp trawler out of FT Meyers Beach to unload in Freeport TX - jobs where everywhere all new women to chase so I stayed. The job sucked-- I know why shrimp are not cheap..

Working off shore is like being in jail with a chance of drowning.

Winters are colder in Alaska as far as temperatures go, but the cold gets through your clothes less because of less humidity in the air. At 32 degrees in Ohio you can get chilled fast, at 32 F. in Alaska you hardly feel it in comparison. I've been in temperatures as cold as -50 degrees F. up on the north shore of Alaska ("shore" in summertime, of course because it's ice in winter) and that's a pain if there is any wind, but you can dress for it. Anchorage, where I am at now doesn't get that cold, maybe minus 20 F. for a few weeks in January.

I've worked on drilling rigs off shore up here but on Fridays we could eat shrimp, :p.
