Weird "Dust?" around the DOT

or maybe you once got some lint on the lens, and it burnt onto the lens :/
that happened to my old dila lens, but i got new ones and its good as new ^^

Acetone works great too. Drop the lens in a little cup of it for an hour. Then use a microfiber cloth to clean it off, and let it dry.

Have you looked at the laser diodes window ?
if the dust isn't moving when you turn the lens
then it's on the window, I didn't see where that
had been addressed.
I just fixed a laser that had an extra amouth of
crap burned into the LD's window and was able
to remove most of it but even what little was
left realy effected the dot, it looked a lot like
the one in post #5

But if the lens is acrylic, ¿acetone does not damage most plastics?

Methanol works very well also for cleaning optics, the problem is that is toxic should be used in spaces well ventilated.

... I think TJ is trolling again, ignore him. heh. Paint thinner is bad for plastics.. as mentioned above..

If they're that bad I think decanning is probably the only real solution.

Excuse me but our local mad scientist IgorT cleaned all his acrylic lenses, and diode windows with acetone. He told me how he did it. I've recommended this many times, and people have had nothing but success. Maybe you shouldn't leave them in the acetone for long periods, but it should work fine.

I would never troll like that.

I've just had.. bad experiences.. with plastic and acetone before.. (when you get tv's as nasty as some i've had to deal with to repair, you tend to try all sorts of cleaning agents on them.)

Maybe the AR coating has something to do with it. I know that cant be dissolved with acetone.

There are also many different types of plastics out there too. Not all might soften in acetone.

This is what I was going to mention. It's normally pretty easy to tell if the dust is on the lens. If it doesn't rotate when you turn the lens, the problem is elsewhere.
