Just a heads up, the HP DV* series of laptops has a design fault with the graphics chip. Causing the screen to display garbled artifacts. You could of course get random things happening i've seen a variety of different things but the main ones are either a blank screen or the $ character appearing all over the place at random.
It's pretty much the same fault at the 360 RROD if you're familiar with them. It can be fixed and HP have extended the warranty on most of the DV series to 3 years last i heard. So if you have a similar problem give them a call or search up on it.
